Murder In Moscow: The Goncalves Family And The ABC Interview

Kaylee Goncalves’ parents revealed that crime-scene photographs showed their daughter had been found in an upright, slumped position against the wall in Madison Mogen’s third-floor bedroom after the November 2022 murders. Kristi Goncalves said the bedroom had been extremely small, with the bed taking up most of the available space, and described Kaylee as having been effectively trapped in the corner between the bed and the wall. Kaylee and Madison had both been found in the same bedroom, while Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin had been discovered on the second floor. The family said investigators had eventually provided them with thousands of crime-scene photographs, giving them a clearer understanding of the physical layout and the position in which Kaylee had been found.

The Goncalves family had continued expressing frustration with investigators over what they viewed as limited communication and unanswered questions surrounding Kaylee’s final moments. They had also opposed demolition of the King Road house before trial, arguing that the structure itself could have remained important evidence, but the property had nevertheless been torn down in December 2023. At the same time, the family said they were still waiting for a complete digital copy of Kaylee’s phone and felt they had repeatedly been forced to fight for information about their daughter’s death. The new details about Kaylee’s position in the room had only deepened their anguish and reinforced their belief that they still did not have a complete picture of what had happened inside the house.
