Kahlil Gibran On Prayer | The Prophet | Inspirational Poetry by Simerjeet Singh
Our next poem in the Poetry That Inspires series is titled "On Prayer" by Khalil Gibran. The poet conveys the message to pray not just in distress and need but also in the fullness of joy and abundance. Prayer is but the expansion of oneself into the "living ether," bringing comfort and delight to all. Simerjeet Singh's rendition of this poem is inspiring, insightful and captivating. We hope you will enjoy listening to this inspirational poem. Please share your thoughts in the comments section below. Regards, TeamSJS On Prayer: Then the priestess said, Speak to us of Prayer. And he answered, saying: You pray in your distress and in your need; would that you might pray also in the fullness of your joy and in your days of abundance. For what is prayer but the expansion of yourself into the living ether? And if it is for your comfort to pour your darkness into space, it is also for your delight to pour forth the dawning of your heart. And if you cannot but weep when your soul summons you to prayer, she should spur you again and yet again, though weeping, until you shall come laughing. When you pray you rise to meet in the air those who are praying at that very hour, and whom save in prayer you may not meet. Therefore let your visit to that temple invisible be for naught but ecstasy and sweet communion. For if you should enter the temple for no other purpose than asking you shall not receive: And if you should enter into it to humble yourself you shall not be lifted: Or even if you should enter into it to beg for the good of others you shall not be heard. It is enough that you enter the temple invisible. I cannot teach you how to pray in words. God listens not to your words save when He Himself utters them through your lips. And I cannot teach you the prayer of the seas and the forests and the mountains. But you who are born of the mountains and the forests and the seas can find their prayer in your heart, And if you but listen in the stillness of the night your shall hear them saying in silence, “Our God, who are our winged self, it is thy will in us that willeth. It is thy desire in us that desireth. It is thy urge in us that would turn our nights, which are thine, into days which are thine also. We cannot ask thee for aught, for thou knowest our needs before they are born in us: Thou art our need; and in giving us more of thyself thou givest us all.” ~ Kahlil Gibran Watch it on YouTube: https://youtu.be/AYeRNNEGNg0 #PoetryThatInspires #KahlilGibran #SimerjeetSingh #Prayer #KhalilGibran #Prayer #InspirationalPoetry Follow us on: https://linktr.ee/SimerjeetSingh

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings - Written by Maya Angelou | Read by Simerjeet Singh
“If you have ever been fortunate enough to see Maya Angelou perform her poetry, you have been drawn into her world where cultural boundaries blur, where language breaths with fluency from many countries, where words pulse with democratic rhythms, and carry an unwavering message of hope and optimism,” wrote Joanne V. Gabbin in an introduction to Maya Angelou – The People’s Poet Laureate. “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” is a 1969 autobiography describing the early years of American writer, civil rights activist and legendary poet Maya Angelou. The poem is metaphor about racial oppression and injustice and a yearning for freedom and equality – a world where people are not judged by the color of their skin. Simerjeet Singh reads I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings in our next episode of the Poetry That Inspires Series. Regards, TeamSJS I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings A free bird leaps on the back of the wind and floats downstream till the current ends and dips his wing in the orange sun rays and dares to claim the sky. But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing. The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom. The free bird thinks of another breeze and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn and he names the sky his own. But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing. The caged bird sings with a fearful trill of things unknown but longed for still and his tune is heard on the distant hill for the caged bird sings of freedom.
