#104: Tough Conversations With Your Children feat. Kodjo Akolor
Amat is still in his baby bubble, so this week Kodjo Akolor joined me on the pod. We began by talking about Kodjo's life after radio and his willingness to share his ambitions. I find it refreshing, at that - according to Kodjo - is because I'm American. Then we discuss the importance of real friends and the differences in friend constellations.Then we discuss the balance of maintaining our children's innocence in a world of wars and invasions and genocides. How do you talk to your kids about all this messed up stuff going on? How real do you get with them? What terms do you use and not use? Are there tools out there to help with these tough discussions?We end the episode with the old tradition of swapping spanking stories. Because, why not? It's a time-honored tradition in my family to recount those crazy times when somebody did something to "get it". Kodjo, apparently, does the same, so we do it on this episode. Amat is at home enjoying the new addition to his family. In his absence, Parisa Amiri filled in and had a fun discussion with Jon about the birth of Amat's new baby and the societal pressure to have kids and the praise for having the set of "boy and girl"Then Parisa drags Jon into the Beyhive to discuss the current #1 US Box office hit, "Renaissance". The movie details the tour, and gets audiences in such a frenzy that theaters have been relaying guidelines for moviegoers (i.e. remember not to jump on the seats and keep your wig from blocking others). Can Parisa convince Jon to check the movie out? Is she capable of an unbiased review of the film? Is Beyoncé purposely exposing Blu Ivy to negative social media criticism in order to make her a better performer? Finally, Jon takes advantage of having a bonafide comedy fan on the podcast and discusses the recent hot water that rising comic star Matt Rife was in because of the opening joke on his standup special. Parisa has seen Matt perform live. Was she charmed by his good looks? They also discuss the how some people can be "misunnsam" in comedy in both the US and Sweden. Vi pratar om Jimmie Åkessons utspel att riva moskéer, Ultima Thules spelning på partiets landsdagar, förslaget att dra in medborgarskap och göra folk statslösa, förslaget att dra in uppehållstillstånd om en person lever ”ohederligt”, och förslaget att kunna gripa folk utan misstanke och hålla dem i förvar på obestämd tid. Allt påhejat av högerskribenter som sprider propaganda, hänger ut demonstranter som gängkriminella och stämplar Greta Thunberg som ”Tjej-Hitler”.
