Coercive control in relationships - how to spot the warning signs, with Sue & Lloyd Clarke

Sue & Lloyd Clarke have gone through any parent’s worst nightmare and they’re using their experience to help other families. Sue & Lloyd are the parents of Brisbane mum Hannah Clarke, who along with her three kids Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey, were murdered by Hannah’s estranged partner in 2020. In response, Sue & Lloyd created the charity ‘Small Steps 4 Hannah’ with a mission to HALT domestic & family violence through education, advocating for legal & social change and supporting people escaping violent situations.

In today’s important episode, Sue & Lloyd explain what coercive control actually is & how to spot the warning signs, why physical violence doesn’t need to be present for a relationship to be abusive, what to do if you suspect you or someone you know might be in an abusive relationship, and why it’s so significant that Queensland have introduced laws targeting coercive control.

This episode includes discussion of domestic violence, sexual assault and murder. If you need support, you can contact the following services
