085: The power of the RIFF.. Metal Riffs that RULE Vol. I

“The power of the RIFF compels me. . .” DOWN.

Ever since The Almighty Iommi first blessed the world with his glorious presence vis-à-vis Black Sabbath in 1970 (and through the incredibly prudent use of the tritone), RIFFS have been continuously evolving throughout Metal, becoming ever more ambitious, grandiose and complexicated with ever increasing precision, evilocity, and gravity punishing heaviness.

RIFFS are the essence. RIFFS are the hook. RIFFS are the core (ha-ha) fundamental building blocks of ALL Metal, with likely as many RIFFS in the known Metalverse as there are stars in the known Universe. And NO, that’s NOT “science” or astronomology or whatever, it’s just a fact. (Plus, or minus a few billion trillion…)

In summation: without RIFFS, there would be no Metal!
