14: Florence Nightingale Shore

14: Florence Nightingale Shore

On January 12th 1920, Florence Nightingale Shore boarded a train to take her to the seaside resort of St Leonards in Hastings in Sussex. This was a journey many people took every day but today this one would be different. When the train pulled in at Bexhill a couple of hours later other passengers would realise Florence wasn't reading or sleeping, she was unconscious. She had been beaten around the head with the blunt object. Who would want to murder a celebrated war time nurse who had only lived to help others? Important information provided by: https://www.findmypast.co.uk/http://ealingnewsextra.co.uk/history/truth-of-murder/https://www.nursingtimes.net/news/community-news/nurses-book-sparks-new-nightingale-murder-mystery-drama-21-12-2018/https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/9416866.strange-case-of-the-murdered-york-nurse/https://www.pressreader.com/uk/scottish-daily-mail/20181214/282260961555309 Further reading: https://www.amazon.com/Nightingale-Shore-Murder-Death-Heroine/dp/192663585XIf you want to support the show on Patreon here is the link and thank you!https://www.patreon.com/theunseenpodMusic by: www.dl-sounds.com (http://www.dl-sounds.com/)Follow us on social media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen PodcastUpdate Description (https://audioboom.com/posts/7470348-laurence-winstanley/edit)

13: The Disappearance of Andrew Elphick

13: The Disappearance of Andrew Elphick

On the 24th August 1991, a silver Vauxhall Nova GTE Saloon car was found by locals on a housing estate in Slough. The car attracted attention as the keys were left in the ignition, the sunroof was left open and it had not been seen on the estate before. The registration plate was ran by police and it was found to be registered to 21 year old Andrew Elphick who lived in the village of Normandy, Surrey which was just under an hour away. The problem that police encountered was that Andrew had not been seen since 8:30pm the previous evening. Andrew was a missing person. The investigation that ensued would lead police to a number of worrying discoveries and would turn this missing person case into a murder investigation. Important information provided by: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPSBRfanUYA Crimewatch reconstruction 1991https://www.nickdavies.net/1994/02/06/the-death-of-a-material-boy/ Nick Davies Guardian Article 1994https://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/unsolved-murders-surrey-hitmen-gangsters-14918873https://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/local-news/net-closes-killer-16-years-4834111http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/6223390.stmYou can find the Resolved Mysteries Podcast at @resolvethepod on twitter and  Facebook and @re_solvedmysteries on Instagram. If you want to support the show on Patreon here is the link and thank you!https://www.patreon.com/theunseenpodMusic by: www.dl-sounds.com (http://www.dl-sounds.com/)Follow us on social media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen Podcast

10: Patricia Curran Part 2

10: Patricia Curran Part 2

In January 1953, aircraftsman Iain Hay Gordon was arrested on the charge of murdering 19 year old Patricia Curran close to her home in the village of Whiteabbey, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Police were proud of their conviction and were glad that a brutal murderer was off the streets. Gordon was released quietly in 1960 and returned to Scotland. The communities in Northern Ireland continued to mourn Patricia and believed she had got justice. This would all be called into question however in 2000 when the Court of Appeals in Northern Ireland stated unequivocally that Iain Hay Gordon had not committed the murder. Shaky police interrogation techniques and a lack of evidence was cited as part of the problem with this miscarriage of justice.Important information provided by:https://www.theguardian.com/uk/2000/dec/21/rosiecowanhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep9T8F0NlRQ Part 1 and 2https://www.findmypast.co.uk/https://sluggerotoole.com/2015/03/25/after-almost-70-years-the-murder-of-patricia-curran-casts-a-long-shadow/https://innocent.org.uk/2017/07/10/48-year-fight-to-clear-name-iain-hay-gordon-2000/https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sunday-life/patricia-curran-case-if-father-desmond-knew-her-killer-he-hid-it-well-31511196.htmlhttp://www.irishnews.com/news/2015/09/04/news/patricia-curran-murder-may-never-been-solved-after-death-of-brother-251168/https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/books/eoin-mcnamee-on-patricia-curran-s-murder-still-haunting-after-all-these-years-1.2230564https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1378970/Cleared-of-murder-after-50-year-fight.htmlIf you want to support the show on Patreon here is the link and thank you!https://www.patreon.com/theunseenpodMusic by: www.dl-sounds.com (http://www.dl-sounds.com/)Follow us on social media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen Podcast

9: Patricia Curran Part 1

9: Patricia Curran Part 1

In the early hours of the 12th November 1953, Desmond Curran set out to look for his younger sister. She had not returned from university in Belfast, Northern ireland as she normally did and the family were concerned. As he set out into the grounds of their large home he had an awful shock. Lying in the undergrowth just short of their driveway was Patricia. She had been stabbed and it would later be found she had 37 injuries. The investigation became high profile as Patricia was the daughter of High Court Judge Lancelot Curran and newspapers everywhere documented what happened next. An arrest would be made in the case and in this first episode we delve into the arrest and trial. part 2 will discuss the other side of the story that led to the suspect's acquittal in this controversial case. Important information provided by: https://www.findmypast.co.uk/ Contemporary news sourceshttps://www.irishtimes.com/culture/murder-in-the-glen-1.232804https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/books/eoin-mcnamee-on-patricia-curran-s-murder-still-haunting-after-all-these-years-1.2230564https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep9T8F0NlRQ More sinned against than Sinning 1995 documentary Part 1If you want to support the show on Patreon here is the link and thank you!https://www.patreon.com/theunseenpodMusic by: www.dl-sounds.com (http://www.dl-sounds.com/)Follow us on social media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen Podcast

In the course of 6 months between 1983 and 1984, two taxi drivers were murdered in the same area of London and their cabs were abandoned in the same area. Stephen Sylvester and Pardeep Sangha were both brutally stabbed to death.  A year prior the murder of Gurcharn Singh Landa was committed in very similar circumstances in Nottingham.
