109 - The Chessboard Killer: Alexander Pichushkin

109 - The Chessboard Killer: Alexander Pichushkin

Alexander Pichushkin insisted he’d killed sixty-three people after being apprehended in 2006 but authorities only had enough evidence to convict him of forty-eight murders. The bodies of other victims had vanished. He killed his first victim in 1992 and didn’t get caught until 2006. Not only was he not remorseful, he was proud. He was disappointed that he wasn’t convicted of killing more people than his idol, Chikatilo, convicted of 52 murders in 1992. His goal was kill 64 - one for every space on a chessboard. Why? Why did he want to kill anyone? Who did he kill? How did he kill them? And how did he get away with it for so damn long? We look into all of this, in another dark, October, true crime edition, of Timesuck.

53 - Teddy MF'n Roosevelt! President Tough Guy

53 - Teddy MF'n Roosevelt! President Tough Guy

America's 26th President went from an asthmatic child to a weightlifting, boxing, mountain climbing, book writing, lots-of-animals killing, calvary rough riding, NYC police commissioner, war hero, author, conservationist, Amazon explorer, and dude who didn't let a bullet to the chest stop him from delivering a campaign speech. He's Teddy Motherfuckin' Roosevelt. He's this week's fascinating edition of Timesuck. BONUS 9 - The Salem Witch Trials

BONUS 9 - The Salem Witch Trials

So much crazy in one episode. In 1692, the residents of Salem Village became obsessed with the idea that the Devil himself was in their midst and that he was being helped by an army of witches looking to bring down all of New England. A special court was created to bring these witches to justice, and residents were hanged because another resident claimed they saw them doing witch stuff in a dream. A dream!! So nuts and one of my favorite, if not my very favorite, episode of Timesuck so far. Enjoy! BONUS 8 - Project MK Ultra: The CIA experiments with LSD

BONUS 8 - Project MK Ultra: The CIA experiments with LSD

In the 1950s, while many Americans were busy watching I Love Lucy or waiting for the new Elvis Presley album, the members of the CIA's Project MK Ultra were busy dropping acid, taking shrooms, and conducting some of our nation's most outlandish experiments in their quest to beat Russia in a race to see who could develop a truth serum, induce selective amnesia, and master mind control (spoiler alert - neither nation figured it out - thank God). Hear the true, declassified tales of CIA Cold War mayhem in the most hallucinogenic suck yet. Timesuck is brought to you today by the Small Town Murder podcast. 49 - Kurt Cobain: The Triumph and Tragedy of Alt Rock's Greatest Icon

49 - Kurt Cobain: The Triumph and Tragedy of Alt Rock's Greatest Icon

I remember the exact moment I first heard Nirvana and I remember the day he died. But I didn't know how hard he had to work for Nirvana to break through, and I didn't know how terribly troubled he was while they were breaking through. With the recent suicides of Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, it felt like the right time for this episode. And it was a great excuse to listen to Nirvana all week. They were so good it made me angry all over again that Kurt's not still with us. The life of Kurt, the rise of Nirvana, and the circumstances of his tragic death in today's grunge edition of Timesuck!  Timesuck is brought to you today by the Crime in Sports podcast.
