Day 283: Matthew 5-7

Today on Meditating the Word: The Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, Salt & Light, Fulfillment of the Law, Murder, Adultery, Divorce, Oaths, Eye for Eye, Love for Enemies; Giving to the Needy, the Lord's Prayer, Fasting, Treasures in Heaven, Do No Worry; Judging Others, Ask, Seek, Knock, Narrow & Wide Gates, True & False Prophets, True & False Disciples, Wise & Foolish Builders.

This is Day 283. Today we are reading Matthew 5-7 ----

Father God, We couldn't even keep the law of the Old Testament. And when Jesus came, He raised the bar. Where murder was wrong under the law, He tells us to not be angry. Where adultery was wrong under the law, He tells us to not even have lust in our heart. The law and the prophets were distilled down to two things: Love You with all of our heart, mind and soul, and love our neighbors as ourselves. But, not just the friendly neighbors -- even those who hate us. We can't do it in our own power, but with You all things are possible, and where we fail, Your grace steps in. Thank You for Your grace, Your mercy and Your forgiveness. Amen
