What is it like making an album?
AA E 53 is an in depth look at what it's like making an album, the day to day, how that's changed over the years. The writing process, what you need to prepare for and consider. Some advice for your own band and music and how to record. Vocal considerations and my approach to lyric writing.....this originally appeared some months ago on my Patreon. The big 50!! but are you what you sing about?
E 50 is a reflective, mildly celebratory, vaguely ironic look back at the last year and reaching the 50 episode milestone! A game of word association, pros and cons, things learned and unlearned during lockdown. Was making music worth it, being forced into content creating, discovering how many people seem to welcome authoritarianism into their lives and care little for liberty or art. Are you what you sing about? The rebel or dissident you sang about for decades? Normal service will be resumed next week! Every sub-culture scene needs active and passive people
In E 49 AA gets nostalgic and looks back at those formative years when you knew you wanted to be actively part of a sub culture, whether it was joining a band, organising a show, making a fanzine, writing to bands and how a few events recently made him think how do sub cultures survive moving forward? where do people meet, rehearse, form bands and play? Partly inspired by an intimate rehearsal and partly inspired by a documentary about the Minneapolis hardcore scene and the band Husker Du. This ones only music! and what can we do to try and help scenes/sub cultures survive the anti human world we might be sleepwalking into. Hail Caesar or Et to Brute?
In E 48 AA goes back to 44BC and the Ides of March. Caesar having declared himself Dictator for life and becoming like a King was murdered by Brutus in order to save the Republic. Sound familiar? Since when did Metal fans become so tetchy and triggered by words, yet are happy to lean into the mythology of 70s and 80s musicians who made far greater indiscretions? and finally to a second cancelled S.Patricks Day, how a handful of confused looking tourists wearing leprachaun outfist standing in the empty streets of a shut down city summed up 2021 so far. The duty to offend is greater than the right to be offended
In E 47 AA discusses the sad passing of LG from Entombed, and tells the story of his dramatic injury time winning goal at a metal soccer tournament! The situation with Adam from Behemoth and his Blasphemy court case and why it has his total support Freedom of expression, freedom of speech, the freedom to Blaspheme, satirise and poke fun and offend institutions, people and religions being one fo the cornerstones of civilised society is more important than anything else, including your right to be offended. The recent surge in ticket sales for music festivals in the Uk being a positive sign for the live Music Industry but will it be hamstrung by health and safety and civil liberty issues? We all have to wait and see......Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/agitators-anonymous-the-alan-averill-podcast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

You can't psychoanalyse the Irish
In E 46 AA discusses how nice it would be to just do a normal thing, how mentally exhausting lockdown is. Tries to put some nuance on the recent Protests in Dublin/Ireland and place them in a historical framework of Irish society and culture. Organise something outdoors and lads will show up for the ruck! Examines our mythical rebellious image and complicated relationship to authority. In the second half AA contemplates the influence of big tech, the idea that we are entering a new age of Feudalism, what that might mean and considers what society will look like if we all become UBI serfs. With an extra helping of madness this week!!!! Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/agitators-anonymous-the-alan-averill-podcast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
