Diana Maw

Diana Maw

When Diana Maw was found murdered outside her flat in Ealing in London in 1988, no one could understand why. Diana was responsible and professional and no one had a motive to kill her. Things would unfold however in a very different way and a large conversation would be sparked about the murder weapon; a crossbow.

4: The Winshill Man

On the 27th March 1971, a special constable walking along the River Trent in the village of Winshill came across a gruesome discovery. What he had originally thought was a bag of cement sticking up from the ground turned out to be a human skull. On closer inspection by police a whole body was discovered. A man kneeling with his hands and feet tied behind his back and wearing only socks had been found buried in a shallow grave. The police have spent the next 50 years trying to figure out some important questions. Who was this man and what happened to him? Important information provided by:www.findmypast.co.uk https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/local-news/who-fred-head-murdered-mans-849215https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/local-news/fred-head-murder-cops-baffled-142217https://www.staffordshire-live.co.uk/news/burton-news/bbc-one-crimewatch-roadshow-reveals-142702https://www.staffordshire-live.co.uk/news/history/mysterious-case-fred-head-grisly-2291243https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/nostalgia/riddle-kneeling-body-pink-socks-13400356https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/face-man-found-dumped-shallow-10697436https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-40407011https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-nottinghamshire-45561514http://missingpersons.police.uk/en-gb/homeCrimestoppers contact number: 0800 555 111Further Reading: Fred the Head and other unsolved mysteries by Michael Posner Music by: www.dl-sounds.comFollow us on social media:Twitter- @theunseenpodFacebook- The Unseen PodcastInstagram - TheUnseenPod

During 1987, a spate of deaths of scientists, computer programmers and workers in the defence industry started to cause alarm. This often meant that the deaths could not be determined to be an accident, suicide or murder. These deaths have been left unsolved and without a conclusion since then. What happened to these people and why did their deaths occur? This is part 2, please listen to part one of the story first in the previous episode. 1: GEC Marconi Mystery 1982-1986

During the 1980's a number of deaths came to light due to the bizarre and unusual nature in which they occurred. Some of these deaths were ruled as accidents, some suicides and some were ruled with an open verdict. These deaths came to be known in later years as the GEC Marconi deaths because of the industry that all of the people connected were involved in; the defence industry. More than 20 people have been connected with this but the question has always remained: were the deaths linked or was it all a coincidence? Important information provided by: Collins, T (1990) Open Verdict An account of 25 mysterious deaths in the defence industry. 17: The Disappearance of Glenn Miller

17: The Disappearance of Glenn Miller

On the 15th December 1944, a plane was about to fly from the UK to Paris. The plane, a single engine UC 64 Norseman had been based at RAF Twinwood farm, just outside Bedford in Clapham. The plane set off on the short journey across the English channel heading for Paris. The flight however did not go as planned as the plane never arrived at its destination. Along the journey, the plane seemed to have vanished. The thing that surprised everyone however was that on the plane had been the American performer and composer Glenn Miller. Miller’s band was still in the UK and were going to join him in Paris when he had got set up. They were extremely concerned to learn that Miller and the plane that he was on had simply disappeared and many people were wondering what could have possibly happened? Important information provided by: http://www.cpr.org/news/story/70-years-later-mystery-glenn-millers-disappearance-may-be-solvedhttp://www.pbs.org/opb/historydetectives/investigation/the-disappearance-of-glenn-miller/https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/894773/world-war-two-glenn-miller-death-bookhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Millerhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-16517128https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02f31cyhttps://www.theguardian.com/uk/2001/dec/15/humanities.researchhttps://www.dennismspragg.com/Further Reading- Glenn Miller Declassified ISBN-10: 1612348955 ISBN-13: 978-1612348957 Dennis M SpraggMusic by: www.dl-sounds.com Follow us on social media: Twitter- @theunseenpod Facebook- The Unseen Podcast Instagram - TheUnseenPod

On the 7th January 1949, a man was noticed by witnesses outside a Lloyds Bank branch in Knowle in Bristol. A number of phone calls were made to police about this odd looking man but little did the police or witnesses know that this man was about to commit a murder. The investigators carried out a huge man hunt across the country to discover the identity of this man and along the way would make links to other murders and crimes that had occurred in other parts of the country. 15: The murder of Amala Ruth De Vere Whelan

On the 16th November 1972, decorators entered a fourth floor flat in Maida Vale, London. They had been sent to decorate the flat on Randolph Avenue but when they entered they found something that they weren't expecting. They had discovered the body of a woman covered in bruises and with a towel placed over her head. The police arrived at the scene and quickly identified the woman as Amala Ruth De Vere Whelan who had been renting the flat for 3 weeks. The question was why had someone wanted to kill her and why had the word ripper been written on the floor of the flat?
