Episode Outline

• What has the humanitarian situation been like for Ukrainian people fleeing Russia's invasion?
• How has the response been and how can it be improved?
• How much risk is there to refugees from people trafficking and smuggling?

In this first episode, these questions and more are discussed by host Pyotr, as he interviews Professor Steven Schrage on the ground at the Polish-Ukraine border. Steven is a fellow at Johns Hopkins SAIS's Foreign Policy Institute (FPI), was the ex-Deputy Assistant Sec of State under Colin Powell, and Co-Chair of the G8’s Crime and Terrorism Group.

The first half of the podcast sees Professor Schrage outline details on the ground, the lack of crisis management, the media's portrayal of the border, and what must change. In the second half, Steven answers audience questions, including on the threats of refugee trafficking, inconsistent treatment of different groups, and the response of the Polish government and people towards the Ukraine people.
