Episode 221: Drs. Catherine Seo & Leslyn Keith

Thank you for joining us for another episode of the Low Carb MD Podcast. Catherine Seo, PhD is Founder & CEO of Lipedema Simplified & The LipedemaProject, Inc., course director for MasterClass: Beyond Lipedema and a professor of psychology. She produced and directed the documentary, The Disease They Call FAT, and was one of the co-authors of the book, Lipedema-The Disease They Call FAT: An Overview for Clinicians. Dr. Seo's research focuses on empowering women who experience the distortions of body image and the role of nutrition for treating lipedema. She holds a doctorate in Psychology with a concentration in Media. She has lipedema, lymphedema, and has struggled with obesity. She has dedicated over 40 years to learning and teaching how to bring knowledge, compassion, and humor to living with a chronic condition.

Leslyn Keith is a certified lymphedema therapist and has a Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy with an emphasis on lymphedema and obesity. Dr. Keith has started four lymphedema therapy programs in California including two in private practice. She has treated lymphatic and fat disorders for over 20 years and currently researches, consults, and lectures on lymphedema, lipedema, and obesity nationally and internationally. She is the author of two books about and published several articles about the efficacy of a ketogenic diet for lymphatic and fat disorders. Currently, Dr. Keith is Director of Research and Board President for The Lipedema Project and an instructor in lymphedema therapy for Klose Training.

In this conversation, Brian, Leslyn, and Catherine discuss the definition of lipedema and lymphedema, how people struggling with either of the above diseases can find relief for their condition with the ketogenic diet, the need for taking a holistic approach to health in order to recover from lipedema, the importance of considering bio-individuality when helping patients, research that has been done on using the keto diet to treat lipedema and lymphedema, the speaker line-up for Catherine and Leslyn's upcoming symposium, liposuction surgery and its place in the treatment of lipedema and lymphedema.
