169. QUEASY LISTENING: THE FULL STORY BEHIND THE DARK SIDE OF DEBBY BOONE'S “YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE”

The biggest hit single of the 1970s spent ten weeks at number one. If you weren’t alive at the time, then there’s no way to adequately describe how torturous that period truly was. Yet the deeper I dug in my research for this episode, the more nauseated I became. The tale of this song has to be heard to be believed. It is truly epically horrendous.

Here’s just a few of the many things Discograffiti O.G. Joe Kennedy and I discuss in this podcast:

A mini-history of some of the biggest runaway hits of all time, of which this is most certainly up there;
The weird, messed-up background of its writer and creator;
And a seemingly never-ending tale of criminal depravity that’ll leave you slack-jawed with disbelief by the end!
