Deborah Joy Winans Full Interview

My next guest was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and contrary to her family's musical legacy, her first passion is acting. She only started singing seriously when she was asked, along with her brother Juan, to portray their real-life aunt and uncle, Cece and Bebe Winans, on stage in the musical "Born for This" in 2016. Her talent includes voiceover appearances for multiple Grammy Award-winning projects, including Mary Mary's "The Sound" and Kelly Price's audiobook, and further lent her voice to the Grammy Award-winning "Greenleaf" soundtrack and the single "The Master's Calling," which broke the Top 20 on the Billboard Gospel chart two weeks after release. She was also featured alongside Grammy Award-winning artist Patti LaBelle on the lead single "Changed" for the "Greenleaf" Season 3 soundtrack. Deborah Joy is on the show to discuss her new song entitled "I Won't Stop Breathing" dedicated to victims of racial violence, including George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Trayvon Martin, and Ahmaud Arbery. "I Won’t Stop Breathing" is available on all major streaming platforms. We will also talk about the evolution of her character on OWN TV's 'Greenleaf,' and how she feels about her character's arc as the show is coming to an end.
