Ep 16 - Why (and How) to Hire Someone ASAP

Ep 16 - Why (and How) to Hire Someone ASAP

If you are a entrepreneur and thinking to yourself… I really want to expand, and I probably know I should hire someone, but I can’t seem to pull the trigger - this episode is for you. Here are my TOP FIVE tips on hiring someone ASAP to really expand your business!

Tip 1: Analyze your time. What brings you joy and/or is high vibe?

  • Step 1 - Spend the next two weeks writing down all of the things you ACTUALLY did. You can log it in your calendar, like I do!
  • Step 2 - Write, in your journal, how you felt after each activity. Did you feel invigorated? Motivated? Or did a specific task create stress and anxiety in your life? What made you feel like you were in a really high vibrational state?

Whatever doesn’t feel high vibe, I give you permission to actually delegate it.

But of course, be honest with yourself. There’s a difference between low vibe work, and work that is high vibe, but might make you uncomfortable. Being uncomfortable but GROWING isn’t low vibe. If you’re uncomfortable, like you have that nervous energy, and you do something and feel great afterward, that’s high vibe. So while I give you permission to delegate ANYTHING you want, make sure you know what’s high vibe and what’s low vibe

Tip 2: Before hiring someone, be clear on your to dos

  • Before you hire someone (and as part of the first part of this exercise) -- you need to be crystal clear on what your highest value add activities. What are the few things you do exceptionally well? Where does your skillset lie? What talents, knowledge, or ideas do you have?

Tip 3: Calculate your hourly rate:

  • How many weeks per year do you want to work? 50 weeks? 44 weeks?
  • For me, I want to work 10 months (basically take 2 months off), and I work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day (but you can cut this back to whatever you want)
  • 44 weeks X 40 hours per week = 1,760 hours in total
  • Now take your ideal salary (mine is $1m) and divide it by this number.
  • $1m divided by 1,760 = $568/hour!

So if I want to be the person who makes $1m/year, I need to value my time at $568/hour. What would I do differently if I knew how much my time was worth? Some examples:

  • Taking uber rather than driving somewhere so I can get time back and work / study / meditate in the car
  • Ordering food in rather than walking 20 minutes to pick it up, and I get 20 minutes more of work
  • Hiring a cleaning person to clean my house so I can workout on a Saturday morning, or call my family/friends, rather than having to spend my time cleaning

Tip 4: Where to hire someone?

Tip 5: When starting out, use contractors, or part time, or just a virtual assistant

  • When Ashley and I hire a new person, we start them off on a 90 day “trial period” and I know of a lot of entrepreneurs that do something similar
  • Start with a VA! Have them pay your parking tickets, make reservations, etc.
  • I think you’ll find the whole process to be extremely fun and exciting when you actually get to a place where you’re having someone help you with these things!

Remember, hiring someone is about allowing yourself to be supported!!
