Dr Jodi Watt - Dementia-Friendly Spaces

Dr Jodi Watt - Dementia-Friendly Spaces

Dr Jodi Watt, narrating a new blog they wrote for the Dementia Researcher website.

Jodi explores the importance of designing dementia-friendly spaces to enhance the quality of life for those living with dementia. Drawing on personal experiences and research, they highlight practical ways to create environments that are safe, supportive, and conducive to maintaining independence. Key suggestions include reducing clutter, maintaining consistent layouts, using appropriate lighting, and incorporating familiar objects. These adjustments not only empower individuals with dementia but also provide ease for caregivers, fostering a more comfortable and accessible living space.

Dr Jodi Watt is a Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Glasgow. Jodi's academic interests are in both healthy ageing and neurodegenerative diseases of older age, and they are currently working on drug repurposing for dementia. Previously they worked on understanding structural, metabolic and physiological brain changes with age, as measured using magnetic resonance imaging. As a queer and neurodiverse person, Jodi is also incredibly interested in improving diversity and inclusion practices both within and outside of the academic context.
