Massive turnout, bomb threats, too close to call: the US votes

The results have been streaming in as voters deliver their verdict on Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, as they battle to become the next president of the United States.

Trump and Harris have been doing everything possible up until the final moments urging people to get out and vote. Meanwhile, there have been bomb threats in the key swing states of Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona, and fake FBI accounts online have been calling the integrity of the vote into question, and been wild weather in various places - from heavy rain across several states, to snow, to the threat of wildfires in California.

When can we possibly expect to learn who will be the next president of the United States?

To take us through the day’s drama, and what we can take from the results so far, Bension Siebert is joined by journalist Dave Levinthal live from the ground in Washington DC to bring you the latest.

The Liberal Party's problem with women

The Liberal Party's problem with women

Women voted to send Scott Morrison a message on Saturday: the Liberal Party has a problem with women….and his government was going to pay for it. Today’s Briefing takes a deep dive on how - and more importantly why - women turned their back on the Liberal Party (without necessarily flocking to Labor) and backed ‘teal independents’ at the 2022 federal election, changing the face of the federal parliament. We’re joined by former Liberal staffer Rachelle Miller who talks about the Liberal Party losing its way – and the long road it faces in turning the party around. On today’s Briefing….the Liberal Party’s problem with women. Could the Biloela Tamil family finally be on their way home?

Could the Biloela Tamil family finally be on their way home?

Asylum seekers Priya and Nades came to Australia separately by boat from Sri Lanka a decade ago. They met in detention and were given bridging visas before moving to Biloela, a small town in central Queensland. They worked there, their two daughters were born there, and they became much loved members of the community. But when their bridging visas ran out in 2018, they were removed by border force and sent to Christmas Island detention centre - sparking huge protests. Angela Fredericks is a friend and advocate who has campaigned tirelessly to have the family returned to Biloela. The ALP repeatedly promised it would clear the way for the family to return home if it won the federal election. So what’s the future look like for Priya, Nades, Kopika and Tharnicaa? Yael Stone says green is the new black

Yael Stone says green is the new black

Yael Stone took the world by storm, as Lorna Morello on the hugely popular Netflix original Orange is the New Black. After Orange is the New Black ended, Yael made international headlines when she alleged that actor Geoffrey Rush had behaved inappropriately towards her during the production of The Diary of a Madman. He denied the allegations and separately won defamation proceedings against The Daily Telegraph, and was awarded record damages by the court. In 2019, Yael was back home in Australia, expecting the birth of her daughter. The summer bushfires that would close out that year prompted her to take a new path. Setting acting to the side and pursuing advocacy and action to prevent dangerous climate change. In this conversation Jamila Rizvi and Yael Stone discuss life after Orange is the New Black, motherhood, her allegations against a fellow actor and her new career path, helping to find solutions against the climate crisis. Yael is the founding director for the non-for-profit group, Hi Neighbour. This volunteer organisation is energised with the power of the past and excitement for the future.
