Starlyn - Control, Calm and No Rules

Starlyn - Control, Calm and No Rules

“My biggest fear was my children wouldn't know how to be uncomfortable and would have to find a way to escape. I don't want my girls to think motherhood is martyrdom or they have to suffer to be a parent or have to escape it.”

Starlyn’s last drink was 4 months before the start of Covid but she didn't know it was her last drink at the time. After battling anxiety for a long time she sought care and was prescribed anxiety meds and had to make the choice between continuing drinking and taking her meds. Scary in itself because her idea at the time was that drinking helped the anxiety but we know that’s not true.

In today’s podcast we talk about;

How guilt (even mom guilt!) and shame is pretty much non-existent because she owns the decisions she makes and how she acts now and when she does do things she isn’t proud of its because she is a human not because of booze.

How as someone who loves control she worked so hard to remain in control when alcohol was causing havoc on her life from eating healthy to working out as a way to prove alcohol isn't a problem. Now that it's gone she has control in a calm and productive way.

The importance of feeling your feelings and being an example to your children so they can see healthy ways of coping has been an unexpected bonus and how she feels so grateful for her sobriety during her children’s formative years.

And as a fellow “I do what I wanter” she has created no rules for her sobriety but is instead looking at it as choosing a life that doesn't involve booze.

About Sober•ish Uprising

At Sober•ish Uprising we find freedom from alcohol on our own terms. Founded by Holly Krivokapich, a former heavy drinker who started a sober•ish uprising of her own and everything changed, we know it's not about saying no to the drink but saying yes to you. Through our podcast, 1:1 coaching and her signature program The Sober•ish Experiment, we support those to create and live their own sober•ish journey.
