Inside Edition reports…America is a nation on edge today as emotions run high one week after George Floyd died in police custody. Protests overnight resulted in thousands of arrests for curfew violation or in connection with looting and destruction of property. In New York City, the first curfew in more than 75 years did not stop things from getting out of hand. As things are so volatile, it’s possible you may find yourself inadvertently caught up in a swarm of people. What do you do to stay safe? It’s a situation Inside Edition’s camera crew found themselves in when their car was surrounded. For those who want to make their voices heard on this very important civil rights issue, the Covid-19 pandemic makes participating especially tricky. Is there a way to be a part of a demonstration without putting your health at risk? Les Trent has some tips. Inside Edition reports…There are pleas for calm today in the wake of a weekend which saw protests in at least 140 different cities around the country that were triggered by last week’s death of George Floyd while in police custody. In Beverly Hills a curfew went into effect at one o’clock this afternoon…all part of an effort to prevent more of the looting and violence that rocked locations around Los Angeles that have come to symbolize the difference between the haves and have nots. The protests couldn’t come at a worse time for business owners. With most companies closed for over two months due to the pandemic, June was going to be an opportunity to salvage their businesses…but in too many locations, the unrest has put those plans on hold. And unless you were there, what you know about the unrest in America you know thanks to the work of journalists out in the field…but around the country reporters have been injured, some apparently targeted, as they’ve tried to do their work keeping the rest of us informed. Inside Edition reports…Tensions are high after violence spreads beyond Minneapolis in response to the death of George Floyd while in police custody. Today, President Trump finally commented on the nation’s grim milestone that more than 100,000 people are officially dead from Covid-19. His tweet posted after he came under heavy criticism for seeming to comment on anything but the death toll. Like tens of thousands of people, actor Matt Damon was stranded away from home as he was in Ireland on location for a movie. In a sign that the world is reopening, he was spotted leaving for a flight. And the University of Connecticut senior wanted for two murders was in court today.
