Why was there so much violence at gigs in the old days?

A few weeks ago I posted on my Instagram (nemtheanga_primordial) some old ticket stubs from the mid 80s to the early 90s and sure enough the violence that surrounded those shows got mentioned in the comments, so I thought I'd revisit that, the reasons why it was happening, a stabbing at a punk gig in 1977 which cast a shadow over gigs in the State for years and I ask, was it just a British isles and Irish thing? if so, why? How it stopped, why gigs now are often just corporate and empty feeling and whisper it....those were the great days, the classic gigs and we wouldn't have it any other way....

It's the end of the world as we know it

It's the end of the world as we know it

In this Episode Alan discusses political polarisation, and the lack of nuance in modern society. What does conspiracy theory even mean? Are we about to enter some dystopian world of digital social control? ....where does the rubber meet the road between fact, fiction and madness?Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/agitators-anonymous-the-alan-averill-podcast. Freedom is not the default setting of society

Freedom is not the default setting of society

In E 27 Alan discusses what returning to and living under Level 5 of Lockdown means in Ireland. The reasons why this has happened and what the reaction is. Have Irish people only a romantic notion of themselves as rebels and lost the stomach for questions of Liberty and Freedom? What does this mean for wider society as we enter a winter of discontent. Has the media been complicit in giving politicians and institutions of the State an easy ride and where do we go from here.....Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/agitators-anonymous-the-alan-averill-podcast. Visiting Chernobyl

Visiting Chernobyl

In E 25 Alan recalls a trip to Chernobyl in the Ukraine, formerly the Soviet Union which was the site of the worlds biggest nuclear disaster. A place that fascinated him as a child, this story describes what it is like to stand 20 metres from the Reactor, ramble through radiated forests, the ghost town of Pripyat and stand beneath the towering Woodpecker early warning system. It also contains some cold war history and an Insane clown Posse quote....what more do you want? The Youtube version also has a ton of photos and videos filmed on the trip! 12 Rules for life in the Communist State of Dublinistan

In Episode 24 Alan exercises his newly found mastery of the Russian Language! and lays out the new 12 point plan for the satellite communist state of Dublinistan. A satirical yet kinda serious look at Dublin under the strictest lockdown in all of Europe. He takes a look at the political timeshare mess the state finds itself in politically and then wanders into civil liberties, the attention economy, social media derangement, why journalisms new aim is idealism and ends up in the murky waters of the US Election! Love in a Cold World w/ Mat McNerney (Grave Pleasures/Hexvessel/Beastmilk/Dodhaimsgard)

Episode 23 is again a very special guest and also another videocast!! This time it's the enigmatic and reclusive Mat McNerney (Grave Pleasures/Hevvessel/ex Beastmilk/Dodhaimsgard/Code and more) who was more than kind to give me his thoughts and opinions on the current situation we are in, what it might mean for Artists and Art and how we can pull together. Mat is without a doubt one of the most talented songwriters and vocalists of the last couple of years whose opinions are thankfully far from the madding crowd! and not one who willingly sits in the limelight so I thank him for this highly entertaining and engaging chat!!!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/agitators-anonymous-the-alan-averill-podcast. The 'I told ya so' State of the Union address

The 'I told ya so' State of the Union address

In Episode 22 Alan looks at the state of the Live Music Industry and who is trying to take to the stage and where, and what the future might look like. How can sub cultures survive the lockdown? as local bars and venues will surely go to the wall. He also examines why Ireland has the most strict lockdown, what the figures and science mean and how we seem to be caught up in a cycle of croneyism, confusion, cowardice and re-election as he unfortunately gets to say 'I told you so...' as the lockdown looks set to drag us well into 2021.
