Once upon a time, an anxious fat girl met the man of her dreams. He was tall, dark, skinny-yet-toned, caught with an Edgar Allen Poe book in his hand, and had a delicious French accent. It only got better when he turned out to be what every millennial emo girl wanted - a vampire who was entirely obsessed with her and her alone. The only flaw our heroine could find was that her emotional support vampire didn't sparkle like the ones she'd read about. Oh, and that he was the reason someone was out to kill her. When Annabel, owner and gothic-influencer for HalloQueens Boutique, visits a local Halloween store in her hometown of Quaker's Wharf, she meets Thomas, a broody French vampire that has taken over the operation of the store. Something about him soothes the deepest parts of her and helps relieve her chronic anxiety, and since it's her busiest time of the year, she figures it couldn't hurt to blow off some steam.
Thomas picked this small town Halloween store as his place to lick his wounds after the heartbreak of the other members of his 200-year-triad ghosted him. They left him with nothing, and now he was stuck selling coffin shaped nails and sexy animal costumes to teenagers. The main benefit of the shop was that he could absorb as many emotions as he needs to retain his humanity with the never ending stream of customers. After all, becoming undead was not on his agenda. It seemed good enough, it was mindless work, an air mattress easily fit in the empty superstore, and he only had to dispatch one overripe mortal to attain ownership. He figured it would be perfect to figure out his next step. But then she walked in and changed everything.
He's a vampire that needs to harvest emotions to survive, she's an entrepreneur with chronic anxiety - it sounds like a great match, and they strike a deal. She's known as the woman who sells clothes by going viral for thirst traps, and he's a homeless energy vampire that she's accidentally caught the attention of. When more paranormal creatures begin appearing in Quaker's Wharf, Bels learns new things about the world and her family. She wants Tommy to leave, but she is feeding him the greatest thirst quencher for him of all -- lust. Thomas will stop short of nothing to get her to be his forever and to claim her thirst traps for his eyes only. Can he convince her to keep him before their deal is over in November?
