Superman in Congress
Representative-elect for California’s 43rd congressional district, Robert Garcia, plans to use a 1939 vintage Superman comic book as the text for his oath of office. The other two items he will use are a photo of his parents, who he said were lost to COVID-19, and his citizenship certificate. The use of the comic book is not illegal, according to Article IV of the US Constitution, which states that “no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States”. Renner Update
Jeremy Renner, the actor known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was involved in a snowplow accident on January 1, 2023. He was helping an unknown individual who was stranded in the snow when he was trampled under his personal Snowcat vehicle as he tried to clear a shelf of snow in front of his house. Renner sustained severe injuries to his leg and torso as well as significant blood loss and was flown to the hospital for surgery. His condition is currently critical but stable. New Bond?
Speculations about the next James Bond are rife, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lucien Laviscount among the favorites for the role. However, Laviscount’s past appearance on Big Brother in 2011 may work against him. Broccoli has described the next James Bond as a “reinvention,” and the requirements for the role include being British, male, and in the 30s. In an interview with AP Entertainment, Bruckheimer said that “we’re still working on it” and that “nothing’s definitive yet,” but that the team was “continuing to take little baby steps” towards writing a screenplay. Depp has previously said that “nothing on this earth” would convince him to return to the role. Bruckheimer also discussed plans for a female-led spinoff of the franchise starring Margot Robbie, saying that the script for the film “will come forward at a certain point” but that the team is currently working on another Pirates of the Caribbean film first. There is no confirmed release date for either Pirates of the Caribbean 6 or the spinoff.
