The new pope is American! For the first time ever, a cardinal who was born in the United States has just been appointed the head of the Roman Catholic Church.  Cardinal Robert Prevost has been elected to lead the worlds 1.4 billion Catholics and he has chosen as his papal name, Leo. The reaction to his selection was electric, here in the USA, and especially in the square outside St Peters. And it's standard procedure - when a big game ends the spectators leave...but some Knicks fans were so stoked over their team's phenomenal comeback in the second game of the playoffs last night in Boston, they wouldn't go home - leading to a very overwhelmed worker at the arena. Plus, the national retail association says the average American spends 259 dollars on Mother's Day and a lot of that is on flowers. However, this year flowers might be more expensive due to the tariffs on imported goods. And Vatican City isn't the only place a new pope has been named! And testimony continues in the Karen Read trial after jurors are getting an earful when they listened to voice mail messages the defendant left for her Boston cop boyfriend in the hours before he was found dead. A witness testified Read called him at least 50 times. Plus, a tragic end for a father and son who were flying in their kit-built plane when they lost control, and it crashed into a house. The plane's passengers were killed. Now the homeowner says he has to live somewhere else for at least a year because of the damage. And video of Super Bowl winning quarterback Patrick Mahomes and some buddies tooling around Miami in a cart is causing concern. One guy is standing on the back. It was a concert for the record books... more than two million people gathered for a free concert in Rio given by Lady Gaga. You expect security to be tight for an event like this and it was - for good reason. Today we're learning more about how concert officials neutralized a bomb threat that could have ended in disaster.  And ordinarily rapper Sean Diddy Combs would be attending the annual Met Costume Gala this evening. Instead, he's in court for day one of his federal trial on sex trafficking charges.  Plus, even supporters of President Trump say a meme he sent out was too far.
