Your Pocket Election Preview, and Reactions to Gun Reform News

Early voting for the August 1 election starts TODAY! Host Grace Fuisz, producer Marie Cecile Anderson, and executive producer Whitney Pastorek are on the mic with a speed run through the ballot: the candidates, the contested races, and the context you need to know. Plus: The revelation that nonpartisan gun reform organization Voices for a Safer Tennessee made significant donations to top Republican state legislators (and insignificant donations to Democratic ones) has a lot of Nashville residents concerned and upset, including us. We’ll get into our feelings about that, and then try to cheer up for the weekend. One editorial note: Raccoon Island is mistakenly referred to as "Rat Island" in this podcast. We regret the error, and apologize to the raccoons. Here is a sample ballot for the Aug. 1 election with early voting locations and hours. Here is a non-partisan voter guide for the Aug. 1 election. Request an absentee ballot here. The deadline for the Aug. 1 election is July 25th. The USPS recommends mailing the form no later than July 18th. Check your voter registration here. If you haven’t yet registered to vote, you cannot vote in the Aug. 1 election — but you can still register for the Nov. 5th federal election.
