DID GEORGE AND CINDY ANTHONY LIE?
June 16, 2008: the last day 2-year-old Caylee Anthony is seen alive. One month later, her grandmother Cindy Anthony franticly calls 911 to report her granddaughter is missing. Casey Anthony claims that a babysitter kidnapped her daughter. By October, when nothing Casey tells police turns out to be true, she is arrested and charged with Caylee's death, even though Caylee is still missing. On December 11, Caylee's remains are found in a garbage bag, dumped in a wooded area near the Anthony home. Eight days later, Caylee's death is ruled a homicide. Prosecutors announce they will seek the death penalty against her. At Casey Anthony's trial, her lawyer first made claims that George Anthony was molesting his daughter and that he staged Caylee's death to look like a drowning to cover up that he may have been abusing his granddaughter as well. Those claims, made again after Casey Anthony is acquitted of the death, have haunted the Anthonys for years. Now, George and Cindy Anthony agree to take a lie detector test in front of cameras for the A&E network special "Casey Anthony's Parents: The Lie Detector Test." What happened when he is asked if he had anything to do with Caylee's death? Gypsy Rose Blanchard: Free
More than two years shy of her 10-year sentence, Gypsy Rose Blanchard is free. Blanchard was convicted of second-degree murder after she admitted to having her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, kill her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Now she is out from behind bars at the Chillicothe Correctional Center. Dee Dee Blanchard is believed to have suffered from Munchausen by proxy — which caused forcing her daughter to use a wheelchair and subjecting her to unnecessary medical treatments, all to foster attention to Dee Dee herself. Before the murder, Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s mother allegedly isolated her and tied her to a bed to stop her from escaping. Gypsy Rose Blanchard is now married and picked up from prison by her husband. Her book, “Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom," is expected to come out on January 9. CHRISTMAS MURDER-BY-FREEZER? Relatives Arrive For Holiday, Find DEAD WOMAN IN FREEZER
Around 11:45 a.m., two days before Christmas, a 911 call is made to the San Diego Police Department. Out-of-town visitors find a badly decomposed body inside a chest freezer. The case is turned over to the homicide unit. San Diego police say due to the frozen condition of the body, the only thing they can confirm is that the corpse is female. During our broadcast, it's announced that the body has been identified as Mary Margaret Haxby-Jones. She would have been 81 years old at the time her remains were found. It's believed that she lived at the home at some point. She may have been missing or dead for up to nine years. SDPD says no missing report was ever filed for her. Police say the out-of-town visitors were not related to Haxby-Jones. Instead, they are related to someone currently living at the residence. The Medical Examiner's Office is working to determine the cause of death. And again, the body did not have any obvious traumatic injuries. TWO CHILDREN DEAD IN THEIR BEDS? The Curious Case of 35-year-old Mom, Kimberlee Singler
Just after midnight, Kimberlee Singler, 35, calls 911 to report a home break-in. She tells police that two of her children have been murdered. The police response report says Officers found "an adult female and an 11-year-old female who had sustained injuries," as well as a 9-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy who were "deceased at the scene." Singler’s third child, an 11-year-old daughter, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. She's hospitalized for a few days and then released. Singler is also treated for minor injuries. As police investigate the reported burglary, Singler works with officers, giving statements about what happened. Then police determined the burglary report was unfounded, and presented evidence to obtain a warrant for Singler's arrest, but the mom is nowhere to be found. Since she was not a suspect, Singler was not under surveillance, and by the time she needed to be, she was gone. Police uncover an ongoing legal battle between the mom and her ex-husband Kevin Wentz. Wentz’s attorneys say their contentious divorce and custody dispute has been going on for over five years. Just three months ago, Kimberlee Singler filed a request for a temporary protection order in El Paso County. She claims Kevin Wentz waved a knife at her. Wentz denies the allegations. Two months later, in a different jurisdiction, a Larimer County court held a hearing on Singler's emergency motion to restrict parenting time over the same allegations about the knife. The court rescinded the order finding there was no imminent threat from Wentz. The court ordered that the children have additional time with their father, Kevin Wentz, around Thanksgiving and again from December 16 through December 31. It was arranged for the child exchanges to take place at a police station in Colorado Springs and the Greely Police Station. When Singler failed to show up with the children, Wentz's attorney filed an emergency motion to law enforcement for assistance to enforce parenting time. The Court granted the motion. Wentz was awarded custody. The Colorado Springs police investigation led to the charges against Kimberlee Singler. On December 26th, investigators established probable cause and obtained an arrest warrant for Kimberlee Singler on multiple charges, including 2 counts – Murder in the First Degree, Class One Felony, 1 count – Criminal Attempt – Murder in the First Degree Child Abuse, and Assault in the First Degree. Details of the arrest warrant are currently sealed under court order and are expected to be unsealed at a later time. Singler was arrested in London and is fighting her extradition.
