Expansion Pass #14 - The Last Of Part II Spoiler-Free Review

Expansion Pass #14 - The Last Of Part II Spoiler-Free Review

We skip the first Wednesday of the month to give me time to pay the games for RTG, but fortunately we have a backlog of about 1,000 podcasts on Patreon to draw from to fill in the gaps. And this week I have not one, but TWO freebies for y'all. With season 2 of The Last of Us right around the corner, and the second game dropping on PC this week, I'm tossing both my spoiler-free review AND my spoiler-cast up for free. I recorded these back in July of 2022, right after I finished my first playthrough of The Last of Us Part II. After replaying it in 2025 I think I like it a little more than I did back at launch, but most of my thoughts still stand. Hope you enjoy the episode(s)!

Remember The Game? #246 - Golden Axe

Remember The Game? #246 - Golden Axe

Are you on social media? Of course you are. So follow us!  Twitter: @MemberTheGame Instagram: @MemberTheGame Twitch.tv/MemberTheGame Youtube.com/RememberTheGame And if you want access to hundreds of bonus (ad-free) podcasts, along with multiple new shows EVERY WEEK, consider showing us some love over at Patreon. Subscriptions start at just $2/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Golden Axe edged out Beavis & Butthead in our Sega Genesis Patreon Poll a couple months ago, and now that I've spent a few weeks playing it, I see why people love it so much. It isn't that deep, but it plays well, looks nice, and it's short - three things I love in my video games. I'm gonna have to track down an arcade cabinet and see how it plays in its original form now.  My buddy Chris returns to the show this week, he's a card carrying Sega kid, and it was fun catching up with someone that grew up with axes made of gold (or fucking green, you lying sons of bitches). Let's talk Golden Axe! And before we steal magic from elves, I stumble through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I had to choose, would I only play games prior to the PS2 generation, or after it? What's my favourite handheld console ever? And a lifelong Nintendo fan is looking for some direction. Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 classic beat 'em ups: Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage, Battletoads & Double Dragon, and TMNT Hyperstone Heist. Learn more about your ad choices. Subscriptions start at just $2/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I don't think it's a stretch to say the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games were to kids in the early 2000's what Fortnite was to them whenever Fortnite was cool. EVERYONE played these games, they were a phenomenon. They made gaming cool, they made skateboarding cool, and they made Tony Hawk a household name. I can barely stand on a skateboard, but I'll fuck you up at some THPS 2. At least, I would have back in the day.  I was in love with these games when I was in high school, as I'm sure many of you were. My younger bro, Josh, was an even bigger junkie than I was. This was a really fun episode. We didn't do a lot of homework or replay the games to get ready, we just talked about our memories of kick flipping 900's and wasting time with Tony and friends. So many great memories. And before we kickflip into your hearts, I stumble through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I ever fire up New Game + for games in 2023. What's the hardest level I've ever played through? And what Nintendo franchise do I want to see get the movie treatment next? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 EXTREME sports games: 1080 Snowboarding, Jet Set Radio, and Skate. Learn more about your ad choices. Remember The Game? #244 - Earthbound Beginnings

Remember The Game? #244 - Earthbound Beginnings

Subscriptions start at just $2/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame I LOVE Earthbound. It's one of my favourite games of all-time. And I'm also quite fond of its long lost younger sibling, Mother 3. But until recently, I'd never played the original Mother/Earthbound Beginnings. That changed over the past few weeks, and I'm not sure that's a good thing... Earthbound Beginnings isn't without its charm, but the non-stop grinding, aimless map, unbalanced enemy encounters and lack of story really make it hard to love. It's not the worst game I've ever played, but it sure isn't it's much more famous younger brother/sequel... I rolled solo this week, added in a dash of listener comments, and explained why I'm glad to have finally played Earthbound Beginnings, and why I'll never do it again. And before we grind, I stumble through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks me to explain why I don't like Majora's Mask once and for all. Would I ever try speed-running a game? And why is Sony coming up with all these weird peripherals for the PS5??? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! If you grew up watching gaming content in the mid 2000's - 2010's, it's almost a lock that you watched some of their stuff. Top 10's, Death Battles, Video Game Vault, they were THE premier source for gaming content back in the day. And as a founder of ScrewAttack, Stuttering Craig was there right from the start. They got HUGE! Then Craig left. What the hell happened? I'm very stoked to have the one and only Stuttering Craig on the show this week. We talked about the formation and rise of ScrewAttack, why he left, where he went, and why he's decided to come back to the world of gaming content creation with his show, the Side Scrollers Podcast.  I know some of you have been asking for more interview episodes, and I think we nailed it this week. I hope you enjoy listening to Craig as much as I enjoyed talking to the guy. And before we start Stuttering, I HAVE to stumble through another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week, someone asks if I still play any games just for fun, and not for the podcast. Have I ever been in a fight?? And if I go back and give little Adam 3 pieces of gaming advice, what would they be?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Subscriptions start at just $2/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame Back on Remember The Game? #81, Mark McCue and I reviewed Banjo-Kazooie. I'd never played it before, and when I was done with it, I said I thought it was better that Super Mario 64 (a statement I stand by today). We both agreed that we needed to get around to playing Banjo-Tooie, and then, like, 3 years passed. I knew we'd get to it eventually, but I wasn't sure when. And then a Patreon of the show by the name of Banjo (coincidence?) sponsored an episode, and said it's time. Play Banjo-Tooie. So I did. And hooooo boy, do I have a lot to say about it.  It takes the formula of the original game, and expands on it in a massive way. Bigger levels, more puzzles, and a long-ass cutscene to start the thing off. It's definitely more ambitious than the first game. Is it better? You'll have to listen to find out.  Show sponsor, Banjo, swings by to explain why this game is so damned near and dear to his heart. And then the Banjo to my Kazooie, Mark McCue himself, gives me a call and we take a deep dive into the fun, albeit somewhat controversial, Banjo-Tooie. And before we get jiggie (see what I did there?), I slap together another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, someone asks how I feel about buying new games at full price. How excited am I about the TMNT: The Last Ronin game?? And how often do people complain about the Infamous Intro?? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! But I never had a chance to combine them until last year, when the Cowabunga Collection dropped and I finally had access to the trilogy of Game Boy TMNT games. Admittedly, the first 2 are 'meh', but TMNT III: Radical Rescue? That's a special little game, and a true hidden gem on the GB. You start out playing as Michelangelo, and you have to proceed through a map, finding and rescuing Leo, Donnie, and Raph. Each of the turtles has a unique ability, and it makes the game into a metroidvania. As you find new turtles, their new abilities let you access new areas of the map. It's a little basic and small scale, but it doesn't mean it isn't a really rad idea. It's also tough as fuuuuck. My resident Game Boy guru, Patrick, gave me a call this week, and we talked about what is not only the best TMNT game on Nintendo's first handheld system, but one of the best TMNT games ever made. It's all about Radical Rescue this week! And before we get radical, I slap together another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, someone asks what would happen if Nintendo, PlayStation or Xbox got bought up by a competing company? Why do I dislike Resident Evil 3? And what's my favourite handheld console of all-time? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! Subscriptions start at just $2/month, and 5% of our patreon income every month will be donated to our 24 hour Extra-Life charity stream at the end of the year! Patreon.com/RememberTheGame It's one of our illustrious Patreon Poll winning episodes this week, and the winner in question is The Legend of Dragoon for the original PlayStation, which overcame 7 other JRPGs to get itself an episode of RTG. This one was tough for me, because I didn't play it growing up, so I don't have the rose coloured nostalgia shades we all wear when we look back at the games we grew up with. I also don't love the JRPG genre as a whole. That said, I might not have loved this game, but I see why so many do. I think I give it the "tough but fair" treatment, and while the cons didn't sit all that well with me, there's some definite pros here, too. My buddy Keegs DID grow up playing this one, and he's a pretty big fan. We spent over an hour talking about the funky combat, the awesome soundtrack, the weird-ass story, and everything in between. And before we fuck up another one of Albert's additions, I slap together another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, someone writes in to defend soccer (football, whatever). If you could only play one, would you play all the games PRIOR to the PS2 era, or all the games after it?? And what do I want to see in Tears of the Kingdom? Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the PSone's biggest RPGs: Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Suikoden II.  Learn more about your ad choices.
