Objectively Evaluate, Consistently Elevate - EP 130

Last month, I had the honor of speaking to the management team at Integrity Auto. As usual, I put a ton of effort into preparing, and by the end, I heard nothing but praise from the audience and the owner. But as I drove home, I found myself questioning whether I had truly done a great job. Speaking to a predominantly male audience was a unique challenge for me since I typically speak in the medical and aesthetic entrepreneur space, where the majority are women. And let me tell you, women are incredible audiences—they nod, laugh, smile, and even get emotional during your talk. That kind of feedback feels amazing as a speaker. But with men? Their stoic expressions can make you second-guess everything.

That's when I reminded myself of a hard truth: my feelings don't matter. Whether I feel like I crushed it or fell short, what truly matters is objective feedback. That's why I've developed a system to evaluate my performance, one that cuts through the noise of self-doubt. I work with a coach to refine my content and delivery, and after every speech, my team follows up with the client to collect meaningful data. We ask key questions to understand what resonated, what didn't, and whether the keynote achieved its intended purpose. We even ask the tough questions: Was the keynote a success or a failure? How likely are you to invite me back? This data is invaluable because it's honest, direct, and focused on growth—not just making me feel good.

As a speaker and entrepreneur, I've learned that systems are the key to success. Feelings can mislead you, but a well-designed system can help you analyze feedback, identify weaknesses, and amplify strengths. It's not about ego; it's about getting better every single day. That's why I challenge myself—and you—to evaluate everything with objectivity. Whether it's your performance, business, or personal life, having a system in place to measure and improve will consistently elevate you to new levels of success. Remember: feelings lead to failure, but systems lead to success.
