25. 3 Principles To Succeed In Ministry

BIG THOUGHT:

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed from all of the suggested advice or steps when it comes to experiencing success in leadership or ministry. You can truly waste hours, days and months chasing the “new” idea on ministry or leadership but I believe there are simple and consistent principles that you can apply to your role without having to compromise your character, personality or vision.

Today, we are going to unpack 3 of these principles that will help you to form a foundation of leadership while still keeping your own creative individuality.

1. SHOW UP.

When it comes to showing up, I believe the 80/20 rule applies. While this philosophy is pretty common, it’s surprisingly accurate. 80% of success can be achieved by simply showing up. That’s it. If you show up consistently, you will see results. You’d be surprised how many people simply can not do this. I’ve seen it in blue collar workplaces, sales, and ministry. Many people simply don’t show up enough consistently. But when you show up enough times, you inevitably show out.

2. PAY ATTENTION.

The other 20% of success is found in what you do after you show up. It’s one thing to be present, but it’s another level when you are paying attention to the details once you’re there. Look for things that need to be done and do them, even if it’s not necessarily your job. Just look for things that either need to be completed or need to be made better.

1. BE AUTHENTIC.

Last but not least is being authentic. No one likes a slime ball who is always trying to use people as a means to an end. If you allow yourself to be honest in the way you treat people, you will go far. You make people learn to trust you when they realize that you are genuine, and having people’s trust mixed with your other qualities of showing up and showing out will lead you to have exponential success through opportunities.

TAKE AWAY:

1. Make your commitment and determine to show up to it. Come hell or highwater, be there. Extra credit would be to be the first one there and last one to leave.

2. At your place of commitment, choose 1-3 things to redirect your downtime into by doing something else productive or making something better.

3. Practice being your genuine self with people and places that you usually put on a show for.
