33. Building Bridges In Ministry

Big thought: One of the biggest mistakes that I made early on in ministry was neglecting the potential of meaningful relationships and networks of people that I was a part of. At the time, I had a mixture of trauma led isolation and pride that made me believe that I didn’t necessarily need other people in my life to do what God had called me to do.

While that can be true to some extent, the reality is that no one is meant to do things alone. When we allow ourselves to connect with other people, w e are able to have exponential results and possibilities for ourselves and our ministries. The combination of servanthood, humility and collaboration helps build bridges between where we are and where we want to be.

Today We are going to learn different reasons as to why growing a network is helpful. We are also going to unpack the idea of building your network in a healthy and practical way. And most of all, we’re going to look at how growing your network can be edifying to both you and your organization.

1. Collaborative Potential.

Whether it’s working together for combined events, to meet new people that could potentially collaborate in the future, or to simply help solve problems and achieve goals, growing a healthy network of people helps you to be able to find unique opportunities that you wouldn’t have been able to find just on your own.

2. Genuine, not sleazy.

Authentic networking is seeing the value of someone and respecting their potential to be able to make a difference in your ministry/organization in some way. It is seeing others as real people and believing that they have the ability to make a positive impact in your life as God’s vessel and creation.

3. Wholistically Healthy.

Growing your network is healthy for both you and your organization. When you allow yourself to be in community with other people, you in turn will sharpen. If you’re a leader and you connect with other leaders inside a network/group, you will be sharpening your mind by your environment. You inevitably gain insight and edification in that area because of the opportunities of specific and engaged conversations.

Take away:

1. Get a grasp of where you're at currently by doing a self-inventory and rate your authentic networking on a scale of 1-10. Then ask your team to rate you.

2. Create a list of people who you can reconnect with in order to grow your network, and be sure to not ask anything of them! This is just to grow genuine relationships with people.

3. Find a group that meets regularly of people similar to your role to join so that you can begin sharpening yourself and connect with more people.
