Turning Ideas to Action: How Your Mindset Impacts Creativity. With Zorana Ivcevic Pringle.

Todays guest is Zorana Ivcevic Pringle, a Senior Research Scientist on Creativity at Yale University and author of the book The Creativity Choice, The Science of Making Decisions to Turn ideas into action.

Zorana brings insights into the nature of the creative process, from the first decision to engage with new ideas to its culmination in creative performances and products.

The science of creativity shows that the key to successful creativity is the decision to act—and then deciding to act again and again, despite any physical, mental, or emotional obstacles, until ideas take shape and come to life. She shares some of the hidden parts of the creative process – from what it takes to get started on the journey of doing something with our ideas, to choosing which ideas to pursue to finding ways to persist when encountering inevitable difficulties along the way. I asked about the biggest obstacles and she shared that we need strategies of problem finding and harnessing the power of emotions to persist through slumps and creative blocks. Finally, creativity is social even when it appears not to be. It’s no surprise that mindset makes a huge difference in how we stick with our creative process. Creativity is often misunderstood, but can enrich both our personal lives and the lives of others.

There are lot’s of great nuggets here.
