#142 - The Music of 1985 (Part 1)

This week we turn our musical chronometer back 40 years to talk about the albums that were released in 1985! Because it was such a huge year, we're doing two shows, and in Part 1 we're tackling January - June. We share funny stories and fond memories relating to albums by Talking Heads, Dire Straits, Tears for Fears, Heart, the Hooters, Run-D.M.C., Megadeth, Marillion, the Smiths, and even Hoodoo Guru and Pseudo Echo (remember them??), plus many others.

As always, we have a Spotify playlist to accompany this episode that you can access HERE.

#23 - Girl Groups (with Stephanie Seymour!)

We're talking about women in music, specifically all-girl bands, and we're joined by someone who used to be in an all-girl band, former Aquanettas drummer Stephanie Seymour! We cover the gamut -- we talk about our favorite all-girl bands, what the term "girl group" means to us, why we label women in music, and how we can celebrate women's contributions to music without putting them in a separate category.  Who are some of your favorite female artists? Let us know! Email us at modernmusicology1@gmail.com or leave us a comment wherever you're listening! #22 - How Old is Too Old?

#22 - How Old is Too Old?

Does rock 'n' roll have an expiration date? When does an artist outstay his or her welcome? Are there bands that should have hung it up a few years earlier? Should Grace Slick really have retired from music at 50? Are holograms and avatars the path to the future of performance? Anthony, Rob and Alan delve into these and more burning questions in "How Old is Too Old?" But first, we reveal some of what we've been listening to this week and pay tribute to some fallen heroes (Alan White, Andy Fletcher, and Cathal Coughlin).  Do you know an artist or band that has outlived their usefulness, or one that's still going just as strong as ever?
