The 1986 Disappearance of 7-Month-Old Christopher Abeyta

The 1986 Disappearance of 7-Month-Old Christopher Abeyta

Skip straight to the case: (9:41)

On July 15, 1986, Christopher Abeyta was around 7 months old. He fell asleep in his older sister’s arms and was carried to his crib, which was located three feet from the bed of his parents.

When his mother Bernice awoke the following morning, Christopher was nowhere to be seen. Now, almost 40 years later, no trace of Christopher has ever been found.

The Abeyta family are adamant that someone known to the family abducted Christopher. They have publicly named a woman as a suspect. This woman was having an affair with Christopher’s father Gil, and was known to have a history of mental health issues.

Could someone have abducted Christopher and raised him as their own? Or was the baby a victim of foul play?

Vacation Nightmares | Elly Warren & Heather Mack

Vacation Nightmares | Elly Warren & Heather Mack

As summer draws to a close in the Northern Hemisphere, we are going to discuss two Vacation Nightmare cases in this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast. Australian woman Elly Warren travelled to Africa in 2016 for the trip of a lifetime.  She had been scuba diving with marine biologists and had been swimming with Manta Rays.  One night, towards the end of her vacation, she went to a bar in Tofo Beach, Mozambique for a few drinks and to catch up with friends.  She indicated to the group that she was going to get a drink and she would be back to join them.  When Elly didn’t come back, her friends assumed she had gone back to their hostel.  Elly’s body was found the next morning, outside a public bathroom.  Mozambique officials have given varying stories about how Elly died.  Her family believes she was murdered and an investigation is ongoing to this day. Heather Mack and her mother Sheila had a contentious relationship.  Police were called to their family home on average once a month.  There were allegations of abuse and violence between the pair.  In 2014, Sheila paid for herself and Heather to fly first class to Bali for a vacation.  They checked into luxury hotels, but their relaxation didn’t last long.  Heather stole her mother’s credit card and bought airplane tickets for her boyfriend Tommy to join them in Bali.  When Tommy arrived in Bali, he fought with Sheila and their altercation turned deadly.  Sheila was beaten to death and her body was stuffed in a suitcase.  Heather and Tommy were arrested in connection with her murder and they were incarcerated in Indonesian prisons.  Heather was pregnant at the time of the murder – she gave birth and her baby lived in the squalid jail cell with her for years. In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the cases of murdered Australian woman Elly Warren and the case of suitcase murderer Heather Mack. **TIMESTAMP** If you’d like to skip straight to the crime content, please go to (11:18) Read our blogs for these cases - https://truecrimesocietyblog.com/2023/09/05/australian-woman-elly-warren-murdered-in-mozambique/ https://truecrimesocietyblog.com/2023/09/05/heather-mack-the-bali-suitcase-murder/ We are now on Patreon!  Thank you for your support -  patreon.com/Truecrimesociety

Missing | Morgan Bauer & Yohanes Kidane

Missing | Morgan Bauer & Yohanes Kidane

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the separate cases of two missing people – Morgan Bauer and Yohanes Kidane. Morgan Bauer was 19 in 2016 when she left the small town in South Dakota where she had grown up, for the bright lights of Atlanta, Georgia.  Morgan embarked on her adventure with only dollars to her name.  The excitement quickly turned to desperation.  Morgan was thrown out of the accommodation that she had arranged to stay in and she frantically tried to find employment.  Morgan had only been in Georgia for a few weeks before friends and family realized that they hadn’t heard from her.   As of August 2023, Morgan remains missing and the two people who were last known to have been with her have been arrested in connection with her murder. Yohanes Kidane had the world at his feet.  He graduated from Cornell University earlier in 2023 and had relocated from New York to the Bay Area in California to take up a promising job with Netflix.  Yohanes spoke to his brother on Sunday August 13 and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.  When Yohanes’ siblings checked his location the following day, they saw that this phone was the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.  When his family called the phone, it was answered by a stranger who had found Yohanes personal belongings including his laptops, ID and wallet.  Yohanes is thought to have taken an Uber from his apartment in San Jose to the bridge.  He remains missing.   Did something sinister happen to Yohanes while in the ride share or did he travel to the Golden Gate Bridge for another reason? There have been updates in the Bryan Kohberger murder case and killer nurse Lucy Letby has been sentenced for killing multiple infants.  We discuss these updates in the episode. Mushroom Mania | Erin Patterson

Mushroom Mania | Erin Patterson

Erin Patterson invited her elderly relatives, including her estranged in-laws, over for lunch in late July 2023 in rural Victoria, Australia.  She made them a meal of Beef Wellington, which they all enjoyed.  She told police that she and her children also consumed the meal. The day after the lunch, all of the guests became so ill they had to attend hospital.  Three of them would pass away, and the fourth is fighting for his life, waiting for a liver transplant. Erin has given a statement to police saying that she made the meal with dried mushrooms that she purchased from an Asian grocer.  She cannot remember the name of the store where she made the purchase.  She also threw out her food dehydrator after her husband questioned if she had poisoned his parents. In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the case of Erin Patterson – murder or naïve accident? In this episode, we also discuss updates in the Jared Bridegan and Moscow murder cases.  As of the day this episode was released, there have been further Moscow updates which we will discuss in our next episode. Cyber Crimes | The Ebay Stalking Scandal & The Suicide of Nate Bronstein

Cyber Crimes | The Ebay Stalking Scandal & The Suicide of Nate Bronstein

An estimated 850,000 adults in the United States are cyberstalked each year. Ina and David Steiner run a blog called ECommerceBytes.  Their website is a resource for sellers on a number of platforms, from Etsy to Amazon.  In 2019, Ina wrote some pieces regarding eBay and the exorbitant salaries of their executives.  These articles got the couple onto the radar of senior executives at the company.  A bloodied pigs head face mask and a funeral wreath were among the terrifying objects sent to Ina and David.  There is currently a lawsuit ongoing between the Steiners and the people involved in the cyberstalking incidents. Teenager Nate Bronstein was struggling with not being able to attend school during the pandemic in 2021.  He changed to the prestigious Latin School in Illinois, mainly because they were offering face-to-face classes.  When he started at the new school, the other students were not quick to help Nate to fit in.  Nate was bullied relentlessly on social media and was told to kill himself.  In January 2022, Nate hanged himself from the shower in his home.  In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the cyberstalking of Ina and David Steiner, as well as the cyberbullying that resulted in the suicide of Nate Bronstein. Taylor Schabusiness and the horrific murder of Shad Thyrion

Taylor Schabusiness and the horrific murder of Shad Thyrion

TW – Graphic violence. Taylor Schabusiness was in a sexual relationship with Shad Thyrion in 2022 in Wisconsin.  The two had known each other since high school. One night in February 2022, the two went into Shad’s mother’s basement and Taylor said she ‘went crazy’.  She stranged Shad with metal chains until he died and she then abused his body. Taylor used kitchen knives to dismember Shad and she then fled the scene.  Shad’s mother went into the basement and stumbled across the horrific site of her son’s head in a bucket.    When police caught up with Taylor, she told them they were  “going to have fun trying to find all of the organs as she dismembered the body”. She also said, “damn the head,” and “I can’t believe I left the head though.” In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the horrific murder of Shad Thyrion by Taylor Schabusiness. Rex Heuermann | The Alleged Long Island Serial Killer

Rex Heuermann | The Alleged Long Island Serial Killer

In 2020, in one of our very early podcasts, we bought you a double episode on the Long Island Serial Killer. In terms of a background in the case, the Long Island Serial Killings or the Gilgo Beach Killings were a series of murders between 1996 and 2011 in which the remains of up to 18 people were found in Gilgo Beach, on the South Shore of Long Island. Most of the known victims were sex workers who advertised on Craigslist. On July 13, 2023, Rex Heuermann was arrested and charged with three of these murders.   It is thought that more charges are to come.  Rex was not on anybody’s radar in relation to this case.  He was living a seemingly normal, suburban life in Massapequa Park, New York, living with his family and working as an architect. Police have spent days searching Rex’s home and have been seen emerging with creepy dolls and pornography.  It is also believed that Rex had a large vault in the basement of his home. In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the arrest of Rex Heuermann and the Long Island Serial Killings. If you’d like to skip straight to the crime content, please goto 9.35. Rudy Farias | Alive after "vanishing" for 8 years

Rudy Farias | Alive after "vanishing" for 8 years

Rudy Farias was 17 when he vanished in Houston in 2015.  He was last seen walking his two dogs – the animals returned home and he did not. Over the years, Rudy’s family gave multiple media interviews and conducted fundraising in an effort to find him.  Rudy’s mother Janie even flew to California to visit a John Doe in a hospital at one point, who authorities thought may have been Rudy.  When she found the male was not her son, she collapsed and had to be hospitalized herself. On June 29, 2023, a man resembling Rudy was found injured and unable to communicate on the steps of a Houston church.  Somehow, Rudy’s family were notified and were on the scene before law enforcement.  They made many social media posts announcing that their beloved son had been found alive after eight years!  What a miracle! Except their story quickly unravelled.  It turns out that Rudy actually returned two days after he went missing in 2015 and he had been home this entire time.  There are now allegations of abuse and sexual assault against Rudy’s mother, Janie.  In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the wild case of ‘missing man’ Rudy Farias. We also discuss a quick overview of the recent Island Serial Killer updates.
