The Devil's Den Murders: Who Is Andrew James McGann?

The Devil's Den Murders: Who Is Andrew James McGann?

On July 26, 2025, married couple Clinton David Brink and Cristen Amanda Brink went for a hike with their two young daughters at the Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas. A man attacked them, murdering them both. Their daughters escaped.

A 28-year-old teacher named Andrew James McGann was arrested for the murders days later. He has reportedly confessed to police, and his DNA was also allegedly found at the crime scene.

Today, we spoke with a guest who knew McGann back when he was in Oklahoma. She spoke to us about those experiences, some of which are more ominous in hindsight.

The Assassination of President James Garfield: A Conversation with C.W. Goodyear

The Assassination of President James Garfield: A Conversation with C.W. Goodyear

We tend to think of the assassinations of American Presidents as being quick and sudden affairs — such as when killers pulled the trigger on their weapons and took the lives of men like Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. But the death of President James Garfield was very different. We talked with Garfield biographer CW Goodyear about the horrible lingering death of this President — and also how it helped spur inventions like air conditioning and the metal detector. You can buy C.W. Mental Health in the Criminal Justice System: What's the Difference Between Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity and Incompetent to Stand Trial?

We've all heard about the Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity — or NGRI — defense that is sometimes used in court- but what exactly does it mean? How common is this defense used? Would it be easy for a defendant to successfully fake a mental illness in order to employ this defense? To get answers, we spoke with someone who works in the field. We verified her experience but because she is still active in this area, she asked that we not use her name or identifying information.Send tips to murdersheet@gmail.com.The Murder Sheet is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Delphi Murders: A Conversation with Kegan Kline Prosecutor Courtney Alwine: Part Two: After the Guilty Plea

The Delphi Murders: A Conversation with Kegan Kline Prosecutor Courtney Alwine: Part Two: After the Guilty Plea

In this episode we continue our conversation with Courtney Alwine, the Miami County Deputy Prosecutor who led the recently concluded case against Kegan Kline. In our first part, we discussed how Courtney first got involved with the case and took the story up to when Kegan Kline decided to plead guilty to all charges. In this part, we pick up the story from there and start with the sentencing hearing that wasn’t– the day Kegan Kline was originally scheduled to be sentenced and he declared that perhaps he didn’t want to plead guilty after all. In this episode we discuss Courtney’s feelings about the sentence, her thoughts on the potential second user of the Anthony Shots account and how the delay of Kegan Kline’s arrest may have actually helped strengthen the case against him.Send tips to murdersheet@gmail.com.The Murder Sheet is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Delphi Murders: A Conversation with Kegan Kline Prosecutor Courtney Alwine: Part One: Before the Guilty Plea

If you’ve followed our episodes on the Kegan Kline case, you will surely know how impressed we have been with the work of Miami County Deputy Prosecutor Courtney Alwine, who took over the prosecution earlier this year. In court, she always spoke with an eloquent and intelligent controlled anger. There were moments during the sentencing hearing where she confronted and called out Kegan that we don’t imagine we will ever forget. But, of course, what happening in the courtroom is only part of the story. All of us who have followed the case have been curious to hear the rest. While the case was working its way through the system, our only contact with Courtney was to make requests for comment- requests which she politely declined. Now that the case is over, we were delighted that she agreed to sit down with us for a detailed interview about it all. In this first part, we cover quite a bit of ground- including what she knows about Delphi, when the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office was first informed about the case, why five of the charges were dropped, what it’s like to work with Dave Vido and why she thinks Kegan pleading guilty was a smart strategic move.Send tips to murdersheet@gmail.com.The Murder Sheet is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Into the Smoke: The Murder of Ronli Ratliff

Correction: Ronli Ratliff's body was discovered beside a couch, not atop a couch. In the early morning hours of April 15, 2004, firefighters discovered a body of a young woman in a house in Indiana's Morgan County. That young woman was 24-year-old Ronli Ratliff. Investigators quickly determined that she had been the victim of a homicide, but no one has ever been charged with her murder. All these years later, her aunt Kim Sink is still fighting for justice. In this episode, we'll hear from her.A 2022 article from the Reporter-Times on Ronli’s case: https://www.reporter-times.com/story/news/local/2023/04/18/ronli-ratliff-murder-case-remains-unsolved-19-years-later/70121981007/The Unsolved Mysteries episode on Ronli: https://unsolved.com/podcasts/dead-by-dawn/CBS 4 coverage of the case from 2015: https://cbs4indy.com/news/tonight-at-11-indy-unsolved-killer-sought-in-2004-death-of-indiana-woman-whose-body-was-found-in-burning-home/Fox59’s 2022 coverage of the case: https://fox59.com/news/indycrime/momentum-builds-to-solve-2004-mooresville-killing-of-young-woman/Check out Kim Sink's Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/ronliratliff/Reach out to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office here: https://www.in.gov/sheriffs/morgan/crime-tips/You can also call the Morgan County Sheriff's Office at 317-572-8477.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Take a stroll with us through Lily’s Garden. You Never Can Forget: The FBI Files: Car Trouble

Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation helped out in the earliest days of the Burger Chef murders. The 1978 quadruple homicide remains unsolved. In 2019, Kevin Greenlee requested documents pertaining to the case from the FBI. Recently, we finally received those. We'll be talking through some of the details we noticed in the files, in this episode and future installments of the show.
