This week’s rerelease guest is podiatrist and rising star of the Australian running scene, Thomas Do Canto coming off his International debut at the World Half-Marathon Championships in Valencia, Spain. Tom goes through the selection process for Commonwealth Games & subsequently the World Half, how he’s dealt with the attention and preparation in the lead up and afterwards, unpacking with Brady to setting a new personal best of 64:18.

They talk about the breakthrough 2:14 at Fukuoka Marathon and how it could’ve been very different as they discuss his newfound penchant for the longer races, recounting his marathon debut at Melbourne 2016 as a major highlight.

Tom explains the expectations he sets on himself, the training and specific sessions that goes into races, gives his views and observations on the footwear industry as a podiatrist before plans for the future and advice on giving the necessary life balance.

Brady learns the hard way why you should always change the batteries in a GoPro. Jessica Stenson won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games Marathon running 2:27:31 on the streets of Birmingham adding to her two bronze medals from the previous games at Glasgow and Gold Coast. Teammates Eloise Wellings and Sinead Diver who ran with Jess in the main pack for a significant portion of the race finished fourth and fifth respectively. Margaret Muruiki of Kenya and defending champion Helalia Johannes of Namibia rounded out the podium. Official Women’s Marathon Results Liam Adams took the race on in the men’s marathon, leading for over the first half of the race before Victor Kiplangat of Uganda and the then-chasing pack broke the race open, Kiplangat winning in 2:10:55. Alphonce Simbu of Tanzania won silver and Githae of Kenya took the bronze, with Liam only 7 seconds behind Githae in fourth. Brad continues to rebuild post-marathon and starts to pivot in a new direction. Brady puts the finishes touches on the Johnno’s Run 10k in Echuca Moama before hitting 9th at Bundoora. Continuing at the World Athletic Championships where Jessica Hull placed 7th in 4:01.82 and Georgia Griffith 9th in 4:03.26. 246: World Champs Week 1 Sean Quilty, Olympian and international representative at multiple world championships and Commonwealth Games with personal bests of 1:02:16 in the half marathon and 2:13:32 in the marathon passed away on Saturday 16th July 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Sean is also remembered as a lifetime athlete, and prominent figure of the Victorian Athletic League. Athletics Australia Obituary Brad’s still recovering from the Gold Coast Marathon. Julian gets hyped for this week’s race at Bundoora Park. Brady loosens his shoulders before getting lost on his long run. World Athletics Championships in Eugene saw a lot of strong performances from plenty of Aussies, starting with the Women’s 1500m where at the time of recording Georgia Griffith & Jessica Hull advanced to final while Linden Hall faced a fast semifinal to finish 4:04.65 Amy Cashin posted a 6 second PB of 9:21.46 to move to 4th on the All-Time list of Women’s 3000m Steeplechase, narrowly missing advancing to the final. The Half Marathon on Saturday was won by Brett Robinson in 63:14 ahead of Ed Goddard and Tim Vincent. Eloise Wellings won the Half Marathon in 1:10:53 ahead of Jess Stenson who joins the boys live on stage to recap the race and how she assesses the race within training for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. In the 10k Isaac Heyne was first overall, while Leanne Pompeani added her third victory in the event.
