Meaningful Memory Maker: Reminiscence, Communication, and Social Engagement in Aging

In today's episode we interview Lori K. Yauch, owner of LKY Therapies and Meaningful Memory Maker. We discuss how Lori has worked in a variety of clinical settings ranging from pediatric to geriatric for the last 20 years- specializing in cognitive-linguistic treatment, dementia management, and dysphagia.

With her extensive knowledge we learn about the creation of Meaningful Memory Maker which specializes in "reminiscence as an avenue to promote communication and social engagement." We hear about her program Movies and Music. The different ways family members, loved ones, and senior living facilities can incorporate these programs and the science behind their benefits.

  • Movies and Music: A Guide to Turning The Classic Movie Musical Into An Interactive Event
  • Movies and Music: A Clinician's Guide to the Classic Movie Musical and Group Activity
  • A series of personalized memory books ~The ABOUT Books.
  • A series of family history books ~ A Personal Family History of Lasting Memories.
She presented at the 2016 Florida Speech and Hearing Association (FLASHA), Convention (Let's Get Engaged: Using Multi-media in Reminiscence Therapy). She has worked in a variety of settings, from schools to hospitals to sub-acute rehab and long-term care centers. Her knowledge of patient populations ranges from pediatric to geriatric with emphasis on geriatric for the last 20 years. Her expertise includes cognitive-linguistic treatment, dementia management, dysphagia, and the supervision of student clinicians and Clinical Fellows. She attended Michigan State University for her undergraduate work in Audiology and Speech Sciences. She completed her Master's Degree at Eastern Michigan University in Speech-Language Pathology. ​ Her gift is the joy, innovation, and care she brings to her work, her patients, and her belief in each person's right to reach his or her highest potential while having fun along the way.
