I know some of you love this game, so be warned: I do not. I have no idea how the hell this happened, but we're here, and we're gonna celebrate. This week, we're talking about one my favourite games of all-time, one of our most requested games, and the game that brought me back to the hobby: Gears of War.  I'll get into it on the podcast this week, but in my early 20's, I had kinda gotten out of gaming for the first time in my life. Once I decided I'd had enough of the bar scene, I needed something to keep me busy. So on a whim one day, I picked up an Xbox 360 and a copy of Gears. And the rest, as they say, is history. My pal Tyler is my guest this week. I would never watch him, because frankly, I didn't think it was a cool thing to do. But when he got Advance Wars, I'd peak over his shoulder every now and then and think "that looks really fun". I just never asked to play it because I couldn't show weakness. I'm sure you understand.  I finally played it on my Switch, thanks to the Re-Boot Camp remasters, and holy fuck, I should have played this a long time ago. Is it the deepest, most challenging tactical game ever made? Not even close. But sometimes simple is a good thing. This game's fun, charming, and addictive. Well, at least games from Super Metroid onward. I tried the original Metroid on the NES last year and respected what it did, but thought it was a little frustrating for my tastes. Fast forward a year later, and Metroid II: Return of Samus for the Game Boy is on the hot seat after overcoming all comers in our Patreon Poll. Some seem to love it, some find it a little confusing. I definitely fund myself in the second category. It isn't that deep, but it plays well, looks nice, and it's short - three things I love in my video games. EVERYONE played these games, they were a phenomenon. They made gaming cool, they made skateboarding cool, and they made Tony Hawk a household name. I can barely stand on a skateboard, but I'll fuck you up at some THPS 2. At least, I would have back in the day.  I was in love with these games when I was in high school, as I'm sure many of you were. My younger bro, Josh, was an even bigger junkie than I was. This was a really fun episode. We didn't do a lot of homework or replay the games to get ready, we just talked about our memories of kick flipping 900's and wasting time with Tony and friends.
