Warner Bros/Discovery Fallout, Fantastic Four Director, Weekend Box Office & More!

On the August 29, 2022 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film news writer and box office analyst Ryan Scott to discuss the latest film and tv news, including more Warner Bros/Discovery fallout, Fantastic Four director, weekend box office and more! Opening Banter: Peter watched Only Murders In The Building season 2. Ryan saw The Invitation…   In The News: Ryan: The Invitation Tops Box Office With Just $7 Million In Unnecessarily Terrible WeekendRyan: The Box Office Is Suffering Needlessly Right Now And Hollywood Has Only Itself To Blame Peter: Warner/Discovery update:Batman: Caped Crusader Animated Series Has Been Canceled At HBO MaxTwo weeks ago over 20 series were given the ax. Now Six more upcoming animated projects have been canceled, including "Batman: Caped Crusader," the follow-up to "Batman: The Animated Series" from executive producers Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves. Were you excited about this one? Seems like a home run? Additional projects getting the shaft include "Merry Little Batman," "Did I Do That to the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story," "The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie," and two different "Looney Tunes" films, "The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie" and "Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical." Fortunately, production on all of the projects is expected to continue with the intent to shop them around to other platforms outside of HBO Max. The Batman Director Matt Reeves Signs Huge Overall Deal With Warner Bros.the first filmmaker to sign an overall deal with Warner Bros. since the regime change with the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery earlier this year.  Good sign? WB always was a filmmaker investment studio Aquaman 2 Swims To Christmas 2023 And Evil Dead Rise Heads To Theaters As Warner Bros. Shuffles ScheduleJames Wan's "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" requires additional time in post-production, likely due to the recent reshoots. The release date has been pushed back yet again to a December 25, 2023 release date, after previously being set for a March 2023 release.  David F. Sanberg's "Shazam: Fury of the Gods" will now be released in March, presumably taking advantage of the vacant IMAX screens. HBO Max originals are nowgetting a theatrical release next year instead. "Evil Dead Rise" has been set for April 21, and Lebron James' reboot of "House Party" will now open in theaters on December 9. "The Nun 2” has been scheduled for September 8, 2023. And the upcoming Stephen King adaptation "Salem's Lot" has been taken off the calendar entirely, leaving its April 21, 2023 spot vacant for now. The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit notes that the studio only has enough money to release two movies between now and the end of 2022: "Don't Worry Darling" and "Black Adam."  Ryan: Why Releasing Halloween Ends On Peacock And In Theaters Is A Bad IdeaWorth mentioning: Peacock Is Slashing The Price On Its Premium Tier Peter (og Joshua): Marvel's New Fantastic Four Movie Will Be Directed By WandaVision's Matt Shakmanthe filmmaker behind every episode of "WandaVision" and several episodes of "Game of Thrones", "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, "Happy Endings," "Mad Men," "The Boys," "Fargo," and "Succession"  He’s directed over 50 episodes of tv Marvel officially announced the development of a new "Fantastic Four" movie in late 2020, with "Spider-Man" trilogy filmmaker Jon Watts attached to direct, but a few months later, Watts stepped away from the project.  Brad: Matt Shakman No Longer Directing Star Trek 4   Also mentioned:      All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com.  You can subscribe to /Film Daily on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcas Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Spoiler Discussion: She-Hulk Episode 2 ”Superhuman Law” [AUDIO FIXED]

On the August 25, 2022 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film editor Brad Oman to have a spoiler-filled discussion about She-Hulk Episode 2 “Superhuman Law” Opening Banter:    In The Spoiler Room: She-Hulk Episode 2 “Superhuman Law” FeedbackMatthew from Toronto, Canada writes in “You mentioned the possibility of bringing in Hulk's son. Since time runs differently on Sakaar, Hulk's son could already be an adult. As they showed in Thor: Ragnarok when Thor was behind Loki by just a few seconds but arrived several weeks after.  There are some theories online that the MCU might be trying to set up World War Hulk. However, I'm speculating something a bit different in that Marvel will use Hulk's son for the Young Avengers. As there's a character among the Young Avengers called Hulkling. In the comics, he isn't the son of Hulk but a Super Skrull who shapeshifts mainly as a teenage Hulk. In the comics he is also the son of the original Captain Mar-vell and a Skrull princess, the heir to the Skrull Empire. I don't think that would work with the changes made with Captain Mar-vell and the Skrulls in the Captain Marvel movie.  Making Hulkling the son of Hulk removes the convoluted backstory and means the MCU has one more character for some sort of Young Avengers project. Also it gives Hulk a new story arc that can be a sort of b plot in several Marvel Movies, rather than something as story heavy as World War Hulk which I think would require the Hulk to have his own movie.” Brief reactions Breakdown  Speculation    Also mentioned:      All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com.  You can subscribe to /Film Daily on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (RSS).  Send your feedback, questions, comments and concerns to us at peter@slashfilm.com.
