Ep. 2072 Yvonne Zohar part 2 of 2 | Everybody Needs A Bit Of Scienza

Ep. 2072 Yvonne Zohar part 2 of 2 | Everybody Needs A Bit Of Scienza

Welcome to Episode 2072, where Prof. Scienza takes questions from the wine community and answers them in his inimitable way! These shows are generally in the Italian language. Today’s question comes from Yvonne Zohar part 2 of 2 Today’s question:  Grapes such as Greco, Grecanico, Grecchetto and Aglianico were assumed to be of Greek origin. Greek dna research indicates that this is not the case. Is there any Italian grape that has a direct DNA relation (parent, sibling, offspring) with a Greek grape variety? If you want to learn more about the Professor: The one who checks all the facts and regulates when we mistakenly type “Verdicchio” in place of “Vermentino.” Attilio Scienza is a full professor at the University of Milan in the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences where he teaches courses on genetic improvements to the vine; he also teaches Viticulture in the Master’s program of the University of Turin in Asti. He has been the lead for many national research projects in the field of physiology, agricultural techniques, and vine genetics. As the author of over 350 publications on vine and viticulture in national and international journals, you can bet he knows his stuff! Ep. 2071 Ganbei! A closer look at the wine consumption patterns  | wine2wine Business Forum 2023

Welcome to Episode 2071, where we present the session recordings from the wine2wine Business Forum 2023. In today's episode, we delve into- Ganbei! A closer look at the wine consumption patterns among women in Asia with Alice Wong, Xiaowen Du Italian Wine Podcast is proud to be a media partner of wine2wine Business Forum and we are pleased to present this series of market focus sessions, recorded during the Forum held in Verona in November 2023. wine2wine Business Forum is an international wine business event, held annually in Verona, Italy since 2014. The event is a key annual  reference point for wine producers and wine professionals from around the world, providing an opportunity to network, develop and expand their wine business worldwide. About the session: Do Asian Women move the needle? All eyes have laid on the lucrative market in the East, but how many have grasped the peculiar consumption behavior of that 48% of the population? From teetotalers to tag-alongs and ladies’ night partygoers, women in Asia have been given all sorts of labels when it comes to their drinking patterns. Times have changed, but the social categorization of Asian female drinkers has not caught up. The extent of lost opportunities as a result of stereotyping is hard to calculate. Since the turn of the millennium, we have seen tremendous advancement in women’s education level. Along with the rise in their disposable income emerge the desire to improve their quality of life. Fine dining and wine appreciation have become the norm for many female professionals. Not only are they now sole decision-makers for wine purchase and consumption, but often times women have different preferences compared to men’s. With regard to Asian women’s spending power and distinctive taste, many industries have already taken a head start and established female-focused marketing strategies. Yet when it comes to wine and its related products, the outlook on the Asian female market has been relatively conservative. Clearly, the pie is big enough to share, but how can wine businesses approach this sector and not miss the boat? This session uncovers the lesser-known facts about women in Asia, pinpoints the boundless potential of this untapped market, highlights their preferences in wine, and identifies channels to successfully reach out to this unique demographic Find more about wine2wine Business Forum: https://wine2wine.net/  _______________________________ Let's keep in touch! These sessions are recorded from Clubhouse and replayed here on the Italian Wine Podcast! In this interview, today’s guest moderator covers the learning objective: “I’m really interested in Federico’s origin story, what it was like to step into the family winery, but also the challenges of being organic in Colli Orientali and working with ancient vines.” Co-Moderator - Wayne Young   Wayne Young is a US expat living in Friuli Venezia Giulia since 2002. He is a self-employed wine marketing and communications consultant, wine educator and events coordinator, and the host of the La Taverna Friuli podcast. Connect:  Facebook @waynegrape Instagram @waynegrape Website latavernafriuli.com Guest Bio - Federico Stroppolatini Federico Stroppolatini, together with his sister Marianna, runs their small family-owned vineyard and Bad and Breakfast in the heart of the Friuli Colli Orientali DOP area, near the UNESCO heritage town Cividale, in the north-east of Italy. The farm was born in the second half of the 1800s and still today it preserve the original vineyard of Friulano planted by their ancestors around 120 years ago. Federico takes care of the production, running the 6 hectares of vineyard (all situated on the traditional tarraces on the slope of the two hills of the estate) with particular care for autochthonous varieties, low environmental impact with organic farming, biodiversity and vine longevity.
