Learn and Memorize Tarot Cards: Quick 3-Minute Lessons

Learn and Memorize Tarot Cards: Quick 3-Minute Lessons

Carrie from Quicklearn Quests helps you learn tarot through bite-sized lessons on the card symbolism.

Tarot has been a 30-year journey for me. I first learned to read tarot in a two-and-a-half-day course, and I was hooked! I loved having my cards read and wanted to demystify the process so I could read for myself and others.

At first, learning tarot felt like a memorization game—understanding the meanings of each card and how they fit into a spread. It took years to weave them into a story and even longer to trust my intuition (which, honestly, I still struggle with!).

In my professional life, I’m an instructional designer, course writer, and digital content creator. So, naturally, I wanted to create a structured way to share how I learned tarot—by focusing on the foundations, especially card symbolism.

Modern times have introduced modern tools, which help me create content in a timely manner around work and family obligations. This podcast was created with the support of AI tools for scripting and voice editing. Final content, storytelling and creative direction are all crafted and approved by me -- a real human with a real passion for this topic.

What You’ll Get from This Podcast:
  • A practical, no-fluff way to learn tarot – focused on symbolism, numerology, and core meanings.
  • A structured approach – designed for left-brained learners who prefer clear explanations before tapping into intuition.
  • Designed for all learning styles – If you’re a visual learner, I recommend looking up the Rider-Waite card images on your phone or using a physical deck while listening.
  • Beginner-friendly but valuable for experienced readers – Even if you know the basics, this podcast can help reinforce key lessons.
I love the woo-woo side of tarot, astrology, and numerology, but I also know that too much mysticism at the start can make learning tarot overwhelming. This podcast keeps things clear and structured, so you can build a strong foundation before diving deeper into intuition and spiritual exploration.

I hope you enjoy learning tarot as much as I do!

Happy Reading!
~ Carrie

I took a two and a half day course, and I was so excited to be able to take the mystery out of getting readings done for myself, and to be able to do them myself. We also have social media channels, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and all major podcast distributors such as Spotify, Apple, Audible and many others under the handle @quickLearnQuests. I am focusing mostly on my podcasts and YouTube at the moment, but I will expand into more social media more consistently when I find my feet.   Here is the transcript: Welcome to the "Memorizing Taro Cards" podcast, your three-minute lessons on learning and memorizing each card using symbolism. I use the Rider Waite Taro, but you can view the card while you listen using your own Taro card deck or a computer. Today, we're exploring the Page of Cups, focusing on reversals. Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed. The Page of Cups upright represents curiosity, emotional openness, and the beginning of creative or emotional pursuits. It's a card full of youthful energy, intuition, and a willingness to explore the depths of feelings and imagination. When reversed, this card suggests that you may feel emotionally blocked, disconnected, or resistant to tapping into your inner creativity or emotions. The reversed Page of Cups often points to emotional immaturity or insecurity holding you back. You might feel that it isn't fair how things are done or that your self-expression isn't appreciated or respected when you try to negotiate a solution. This card invites you to reconnect with your emotions, understand what's causing these blockages, and try a different approach. So what does that mean when we see the Page of Cups reversed in a reading? When the Page of Cups reversed appears in a reading, it's often a sign that you must address these emotional blockages or insecurities. This card encourages you to explore these emotions rather than push them away. It's a reminder that emotional growth often requires introspection or a different perspective. It may also indicate that your creative energy is feeling stifled. Suppose you're struggling with a lack of inspiration or motivation. In that case, the reversed Page of Cups suggests that it's time to reconnect with your inner childlike curiosity when exploring these blockages but then solve them more strategically rather than expressing your emotions outwardly. So, how do you memorize this reversed meaning of the card?  Tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it.  For example, my reversed Page of Cups moment was learning the political ropes in an office setting.  More than once, I tried to assert myself when I was mistreated, and eventually, I just learned to handle things differently.  My younger self didn't like confrontation, and I was okay with constructive criticism because I wanted to do my job well.  However, there often was an office bully who was underhanded in how they dealt with team members, and it took me a solid decade of giving up the fight when I ran into these characters.  Remember, the key to mastering taro is practice. As you listen to these three-minute lessons, the cards' symbolism will become more ingrained in your memory. Thank you for tuning in. I use the Rider Waite Tarot, but you can view the card while you listen using your own Tarot card deck or a computer. Today, we're exploring the Ten of Cups, focusing on reversals. Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed. The Ten of Cups upright is a card of emotional fulfillment, happiness, and harmony, particularly in family and relationships. It's about finding joy in deep emotional connections, achieving unity, and aligning with your ideal vision of happiness. When reversed, it suggests that this emotional fulfillment may be out of reach or that there are unresolved relationship tensions. The reversed Ten of Cups often indicates a situation where you had high expectations for happiness. Still, things aren't turning out the way you envisioned. It can signal disharmony within a family or a relationship, disappointment in emotional connections, or unmet desires for the perfect life.So what does that mean when we see the Ten of Cups reversed in a reading? When the Ten of Cups reversed appears in a reading, it's often a sign that you must address emotional discord. This card encourages you to face these challenges with honesty and compassion, working toward restoring harmony rather than maintaining unrealistic expectations. It may also suggest you feel disappointed by the gap between your ideal life and your current reality. The reversed Ten of Cups reminds you that perfection is an illusion, and it's important to find contentment in the small moments of joy and connection that exist, even when things aren't perfect. So, how do you memorize this reversed meaning of the card?  I find myself tying the card to a personal experience, which helps me remember it.  For example, my reversed Ten of Cups moment was coming to terms with the illusion of perfection.  In my e-commerce business, I felt this constant pressure that I wasn't doing enough. I wasn't doing well enough for the amount of effort I put into the business.  What multiplied this feeling was that the people I networked with seemed to be doing much better than I was.  They would speak of their successes and excitement for upcoming projects when I was feeling that I was barely breaking even.  As I spent more time in some of these networking groups and became friends with some of the ladies, the truth came out through more heart-based conversations: they were just as afraid as I was.  Some were doing better than me, and others were struggling because they didn't have a day job to keep the money coming in.  I think of these realizations as Reversed Ten of Cups because of the gap between the expectations of my business and the reality that I did not have fair expectations of myself.  They were an illusion I created in my head because my colleagues seemed to enjoy more success than I was.  It was never a competition, and I was happy for them.  However, it was my benchmark for success and wasn't entirely built on the truth.  I stayed in my lane, kept working, and supported my new friends wherever possible.  But I stopped comparing myself to others because it wasn't helping me benchmark where I was at.  It was creating a feeling of not being enough in my own business. This card reminds us that true emotional fulfillment requires honesty, realistic expectations, and a willingness to work through things quickly and on my terms.Remember, the key to mastering tarot is practice. Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed. The Nine of Cups upright is called the "wish card," symbolizing emotional satisfaction, contentment, and the fulfillment of desires. It represents a moment of personal achievement where things align, and joy is found in both material and emotional fulfillment. When reversed, it suggests something is missing from this picture of happiness. You may have achieved specific goals but still feel unfulfilled, or you may be chasing desires that don't bring the true contentment you seek. The reversed Nine of Cups can point to hollow victories, where success didn't bring the happiness you expected. It's a reminder that sometimes what we wish for feels different than we thought, when we achieve it.So what does that mean when we see the Nine of Cups reversed in a reading? When the Nine of Cups reversed appears in a reading, it's often a sign to reassess what true happiness means to you. This card encourages you to look at your achievement and determine what is missing for you. From there, determine if you really achieved the right goal. Maybe a pivot is in order. It also suggests that your expectations for happiness may not be realistic in this situation. You may be placing too much pressure on the goal, believing that once you achieve it, you'll be fulfilled. The reversed Nine of Cups reminds you that happiness is a process and comes from how you feel, not necessarily the achievement itself. Gratitude is also a key to happiness. Always check in with feelings of gratitude for the things in your life that are going well and also for the lessons learned along the way.So, how do you memorize this reversed meaning of the card?  I find myself tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it.  For example, my reversed Nine of Cups moment was around a belief system I had when I was younger around my perfect partner.  I was very much in love with someone I thought was my nine of cups.  He was handsome, super funny, passionate, complimentary, and so much fun to be around.  He was often the center of attention because of his charm.  We were together for about four years, and with time, the nine of cups started to reverse.  The things I loved about him were the same reasons he didn't want to settle down.   He would tell me what I wanted to hear, but with time, he would leave me behind, for boys' nights out. Truthfully, he taught me one of my biggest lessons at the time.  I know myself and other young women used to talk about our ideal person, not understanding the full spectrum that can come with our wish list.  Once I dropped the list and focused on finding a good fit, things became much better for me. Remember, the key to mastering tarot is practice. I use the Rider Waite Tarot, but you can view the card while you listen using your own Tarot card deck or a computer. Today, we're exploring the Eight of Cups, focusing on reversals. Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed. The Eight of Cups upright represents a journey of leaving behind what no longer fulfills you. You find yourself seeking deeper meaning and emotional satisfaction. It's about walking away from situations, relationships, or patterns that no longer bring joy or growth. When reversed, it suggests resistance to that necessary change. You may feel stuck, either holding onto something out of fear or hesitating to move forward because of uncertainty or emotional attachment. The reversed Eight of Cups often points to a sense of stagnation, knowing that something needs to change but being reluctant to take the steps toward that change. It's a card that asks you to confront what's holding you back and to summon the courage to release it.So what does that mean when we see the Eight of Cups reversed in a reading? When the Eight of Cups reversed shows up in a reading, it's often a sign that you're avoiding or delaying an important decision. This card suggests that you may be holding onto the past, even though you know deep down that it's time to let go. It's an invitation to face your fears and take the first steps toward emotional freedom. This card suggests that you're hesitating to move forward because you're unsure of what lies ahead. The reversed Eight of Cups encourages you to trust the change process and understand that leaving behind what doesn't serve you opens the door to new opportunities and growth. So, how do you memorize this reversed meaning of the card?  I find myself tying the card to a personal experience helps me.  For example, my reversed Eight of Cups moment was being afraid to end a relationship I no longer wanted.  I was in my early twenties, and I was with a very nice guy.  He was handsome, my best friend, and he wanted to marry me.  The truth is, even though, on paper, he was a perfect partner, I was in my early twenties and did not want to be in a serious relationship.  Also, for me, there was no fire in the relationship.  There was nothing wrong with the person; the timing wasn't right.  I was stuck in the eight of cups upright for years, feeling that I would be making a mistake, leaving someone who had done nothing wrong to cause this.  Eventually, the Eight of Cups reversed, and I found the strength to end it.  All these years later, he went on to get married, and I did as well.  Everything ended up exactly as it should be.  However, it took a lot of turmoil and double-guessing to get me there. And the hurt he felt at one time, was replaced with someone who was better for him. This card reminds us that while change can be difficult, it's often necessary for our emotional growth and well-being.Remember, the key to mastering tarot is practice. First, let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then the meaning when reversed. The Seven of Cups upright is often associated with choices, daydreams, and illusions. It presents us with many possibilities, some realistic and some fantastical, which can lead to confusion or indecision. When reversed, it indicates a shift toward clarity. You may have been overwhelmed by too many options or distracted by unrealistic desires, but now you're starting to focus on what truly matters. The reversed Seven of Cups suggests that you're moving away from wishful thinking and taking practical steps to turn your dreams into reality. It's a card of grounding, where illusions fade, and you're able to make clear, informed decisions. When the Seven of Cups reversed appears in a reading, it's often a sign that it's time to get practical and focused. If you've been scattered or overwhelmed by too many options, this card suggests that you can now narrow your choices and commit to a specific path. It encourages you to take decisive action rather than remaining stuck in indecision. This card may also indicate that you've gained clarity on a previously confusing or deceptive situation. Whether in relationships, work, or personal growth, the Seven of Cups reversed suggests that you see things as they truly are and are ready to move forward confidently. For example, my reversed Seven of Cups moment was closing down my retail business, Carrie's Closet.  I ran it for six years, and even though I had a lot of fun and made some money, I needed my full-time job to support the ebbs and flows throughout the year.  It never really stood on its own year-round.  Deciding to close it down so that I could reduce my load to one full-time job instead of two, is where my wishful thinking of the Seven of Cups upright finally reversed, and I had to look at things practically.  What I was doing was not sustainable for any level of my well-being.This card reminds us that clarity and focus are vital to making empowered decisions and moving forward.Remember, the key to mastering tarot is practice. First, let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then the meaning when reversed. The Six of Cups Upright is often associated with nostalgia, childhood memories, and reconnecting with the past. It symbolizes joyful recollections and finding comfort in familiar experiences. When reversed, it suggests that you may be attached to the past in an unhealthy way. It can also indicate that unresolved issues or regrets are holding you back from where you want to go. The reversed Six of Cups often indicates a need for growth and change, urging you to release past patterns and embrace the present. It's about finding a balance between honoring your memories and letting go of what no longer serves you. When the Six of Cups reversed appears in a reading, it's often a sign that you must release your hold on the past. This card encourages you to let go of old attachments and focus on what lies ahead. It may also indicate that you're dealing with unresolved childhood issues or patterns that continue to affect your life. The reversed Six of Cups suggests that now is the time to address these matters and find closure, allowing you to break free from past limitations. For example, my reversed Six of Cups moment is working through my appearance as I age. I do not consider myself a vain person, but as my age has crept up, I have struggled with the changes in my face, specifically my eyes and mouth. I am working on seeing the aging process as beautiful and spending less time trying to look younger. My feelings are less about vanity and more about adapting to the idea of what aging looks like for me.  This card reminds us that while the past can offer valuable lessons, we must let go and make room for growth and new experiences. First, let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then the meaning when reversed. The Five of Cups upright often symbolizes grief, regret, and focusing on the loss itself. It's a card that reflects sorrow and disappointment as the figure mourns over spilled cups. When reversed, it suggests a shift from dwelling on the past to moving forward with resilience and renewed hope. It indicates that you are beginning to see the silver linings or new opportunities that arise even after experiencing setbacks. The reversed Five of Cups represents a turning point where healing and acceptance begin. You may be letting go of past hurts, releasing regrets, or embracing the future with optimism. When the Five of Cups reversed appears in a reading, it's often a sign that healing is underway. You're starting to let go of grief or regrets, and you feel a sense of emotional relief as you shift your focus from the past to the present. This card reminds you that it's okay to release what no longer serves you and to allow yourself to move on.It may also indicate reconciliation or forgiveness. You might be mending a relationship or finding closure in a difficult situation, leading to greater emotional freedom. The reversed Five of Cups encourages you to open your heart to new possibilities and relationships rather than remaining stuck in old wounds.Let's discuss ways to memorize the Five of Cups Reversed. It is helpful to think of a situation in my life that I can relate to the card.  For example, my reversed Five of Cups moment was recovering from a heartbreak, which most of us can relate to.  It was a big lesson learned for me in this particular relationship.  I almost always dated nice guys, and I got swept away by a womanizer who knew all the right things to say and do to make me feel like I was the only woman in the world.  It ended as quickly as it started, and I was surprised and devastated. I was stuck in the five of cups energy for months. I remember when the fog started to clear. I found myself less concerned with why he left, and more concerned about getting on with my life.  This card reminds us that healing is possible and that hope and renewal are within reach even after loss.Remember, the key to mastering tarot is practice. As you continue to listen to these three-minute lessons, the cards' symbolism will become more ingrained in your memory. Thank you for tuning in. I use the Rider Waite Tarot if you would like to view the card while you listen using your own Tarot card deck or a computer. Today, we're exploring the Four of Cups, focusing on reversals. First, let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then the meaning when reversed. The Four of Cups upright often represents introspection, withdrawal, and a sense of dissatisfaction. It's a card that shows someone deep in thought, perhaps even missing out on opportunities because they're too focused on what's not working. When reversed, it signals a turning point. It suggests that you're ready to rejoin the world, see things from a fresh perspective, and take advantage of new opportunities that may have been overlooked before. The reversed Four of Cups often indicates a shift from stagnation to action. You may have spent time in deep reflection or been stuck in a rut, but now you're ready to break free from that mindset and engage with new possibilities. Next, let's discuss how to read the Four of Cups reversed in a reading. When the Four of Cups reversed appears in a reading, it's often a sign that you're emerging from a period of self-reflection or isolation. You're ready to re-engage with life, and new opportunities that present themselves may be easier to see. This card encourages you to be open to these possibilities and not to let past experiences cloud your judgment. It may also indicate that you've gained a fresh perspective. When you're stuck or disillusioned, the reversed Four of Cups shows you're ready to see things differently and take proactive steps to improve your circumstances. Let's talk about ways to memorize the Four of Cups Reversed.  It is helpful to think of a situation in my life that I can tie to the card.  For example, my reversed Four of Cups moment, where I emerged from self-reflection and isolation with a new look on life, was after a period of illness.  I was in the hospital in my thirties with a virus.  I was off work for two months and in the hospital for one month.  I was hit like a tonne of bricks, and the road to recovery was slow.  I remember during that time, what was playing through my mind was concern about how I would support myself if I couldn't work.  I was stuck in unhelpful thoughts, such as being a burden to my loved ones. It was the first time I was sick to this degree, and I went through stages of fear and grief. My Four of Cups Reversed moment was the new perspective of moving from fear to determination.  Even though there wasn't much I could do then, there was a clear path to a full recovery, even though it was slow.  That change of perspective pulled me out of panic mode and into a mental space of making plans. I was thinking about what I was going to do when I got out of the hospital. This was a more productive way of being, and likely led to a better outcome and recovery. Remember, the key to mastering tarot is practice. As you continue to listen to these three-minute lessons, you'll find that the symbolism of the cards becomes more ingrained in your memory.
