Episode #161: Stefan Chmelik: Regulating the Nervous System, Mental Health, and Sensate

Episode #161: Stefan Chmelik: Regulating the Nervous System, Mental Health, and Sensate

Over the past 20 years, there’s been a transition in the discussion around mental health. Now more than ever, there’s been a heavy focus on stress, anxiety and the impact they can have on our overall health. However, the ability for people to engage with techniques such as mindful breathing and meditation has also decreased over the years.   I’m joined by Stefan Chmelik, co-founder and inventor of Sensate, to discuss why it’s important to focus on regulating our nervous system, and how embracing discomfort and taking risks is key to transformation and development. We also dive into the technology behind Sensate, the benefits of using Sensate, and the different use cases. If you’re someone who is looking for a way to regulate your nervous system and improve the amount of quality sleep you’re getting each night, you’ll want to tune into our conversation.   Stefan is the inventor of the Sensate technology, a lifelong meditator and founder of London Harley Street’s New Medicine Group. Stefan is a technology innovator and physician with 30 years of clinical experience, working with tens of thousands of patients experiencing stress and anxiety. He is now entirely devoted to leveraging his significant and unique experience towards achieving maximum impact for Sensate as the ideal consumer solution. It is deeply wired into our cells, body, and connective tissues, ensuring that all these functions happen without us being consciously aware of them. Embracing discomfort and taking risks is key to transformation and development. By stepping outside of our comfort zone and exposing ourselves to “good stress”, we can help build resilience and adaptability.  Humans are fundamentally tied to nature, and this is reflected in our nurture and survival responses. The human response to nature is complex and multifaceted, incorporating both physical and emotional elements. Our bodies are designed to respond to various environmental stimuli, both positive and negative, in order to ensure our survival.

Episode #160: Adam Wenguer: How to Enhance Your Focus, Improve Your Sleep Quality, and Reduce Inflammation With Full-Spectrum CBD

Episode #160: Adam Wenguer: How to Enhance Your Focus, Improve Your Sleep Quality, and Reduce Inflammation With Full-Spectrum CBD

Did you know you can take CBD with your morning coffee?   In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Podcast, I chat with Adam Wenguer about the endocannabinoid system, which is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, neurotransmitters, cannabinoid receptors, and receptor proteins.    Adam also shares the benefits of taking CBD both in the morning and the evening. While most of us are aware of the benefits we get from taking CBD to get into a parasympathetic state for better sleep, it works wonderfully to help enhance your focus and cognitive function in the morning.   Adam Wenguer is the founder and CEO of Element Health, producer of the most potent full-spectrum CBD on the market. He has a vast knowledge of the medicinal use of CBD/cannabinoids for human optimization and is an expert on the Endocannabinoid system. With a background in applied physiology, kinesiology, and human performance, Adam has over 20 years of experience working with professional athletes, company executives, and other high performers seeking to maximize their physical and mental capabilities.      Thank you to our sponsors for making this episode possible:   To Purchase any products from Element Health use code NAT15 to save 15% at https://elementhealthsupply.com/   Use code NAT10 for 10% off your order at https://www.timelinenutrition.com/shop/nutrition.   Go to www.DrinkLMNT.com/NAT to get 8 FREE single-serving packets with your order.   Go to https://oxfordhealthspan.com/en-ca and use code BIONAT15 for a discount.     Find more about Nathalie:   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmholC48MqRC50UffIZOMOQ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/biohackingsuperhumanperformance Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nathalieniddam/ Website: NatNiddam.com Join Nat’s Membership Community: https://www.natniddam.com/bsp-community Learn more about the 2023 Women’s Longevity & Resilience Retreat: https://www.natniddam.com/longevity-resilience     Find more from Adam:   Website: Use code NAT15 to save at https://elementhealthsupply.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elementhealth/      What we discuss:   00:00:46: About Adam’s addiction journey 00:08:16: What is the endocannabinoid system?  00:13:18: What is CBD? 00:14:28: How does CBD reduce inflammation? 00:17:42: Why aren’t we in tune with our natural state anymore? 00:19:22: What should people look for in CBD products? 00:25:25: What is the beauty of full spectrum CBD? 00:30:09: What’s the issue with CBD gummies? 00:32:31: Can CBD be used in the morning? 00:34:00: How can CBD help at night? 00:35:15: Can you use less CBD and still get the same effect? 00:41:52: How does topical CBD help with inflammation? 00:48:23: What type of supplements should you avoid stacking with CBD? 00:55:03: What does Adam think of biohacking? 01:00:09: How does your personality impact your healing ability?     Key Takeaways:   We all know that less is more, and that couldn’t be more true when it comes to CBD. The goal with CBD is not to infinitely increase your dosage, but to reach a point where you need less of it. See, CBD has a thing called reverse tolerance where over time you you will need less of it to feel the same great results. This is due to CBD not directly binding to the receptors in the ECS. Instead, CBD is involved in communicating how to regulate various responses in the body. So once you’ve reached a peak in the optimization of whatever it is you’re trying to improve with CBD, then your body may slowly need less of that CBD to keep up the same good work.   Newsflash: CBD can be used all day long — and not only as a sedative at night. The key to reaping most of its benefits is to take the right dose at the right time, depending on the effect you want to have. So if you want to feel focused without the jitters often associated with caffeine, a small amount of CBD in the morning should help. But if you want to slip into a parasympathetic state, then taking CBD is the way to go.   The quality of the CBD you intake is just as important - if not more - than the dosage you take in. You need to do your research to find out what the farming, manufacturing, and overall commercialization process is like for the CBD brands you buy from. You need to be intentional about what you put in your body.

Do you feel like your sex life took a hit as you grew older?   In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Podcast, I chat with Susan Bratton about sexual biohacking. Most women tend to let their sex lives die off as they grow older, especially if their body changes in ways where sex just doesn’t happen to feel the same way that it used to. From vaginal dryness to difficulty achieving orgasms, Susan talks about the different sexual rejuvenation treatments and protocols women can try out so that they can continue to enjoy intimacy with their partners even as their bodies change over time.   We also chat about the importance of cultivating intimacy with a partner that you have been with for a long time. Susan shares her sex bucket list, among other tools, and explains how this tool can help light up that spark that may have been dormant between you and your partner for a while.    Susan Bratton is an Intimacy Wellness Expert, Sexual Bio-Hacker, and self-proclaimed “Orgasmanaut”, who is a champion and advocate for all those who desire lifelong intimacy and passion. The reason? They just can’t get aroused like they used to. Given that your vagina is a muscle and not a gland, it can’t lubricate itself without blood flow. Your vaginal tissue requires blood flow to seep through the layers of its tissue to wet the lining. But over time, as women reach menopause, the tissue thins out and tends to dry up. Thus, the importance of doing the work to bring blood flow back to your pelvic bowl - especially as you get older.   The #1 reason why women don’t enjoy sex is that they’re engaging in intercourse BEFORE their bodies are properly prepared for it! See, men tend to be aroused very quickly and are ready for intercourse within a few minutes of foreplay. On the other hand, women need an average of 20 to 30 minutes of consistent stimulation to be fully aroused. As a result, this makes sex less enjoyable as women engage in intercourse BEFORE enough time has gone by to ensure adequate blood flow has made its way toward their vaginal tissue - which would properly lubricate their vagina. And as women get older and the vaginal tissue thins out, it takes even more time to get aroused - making intercourse more painful than it used to be if they rush it.   Most women have been having sex like a dude most of their lives if not all of their lives. While it's something that women don’t realize early on in their sex life, it becomes a lot more apparent after menopause when their bodies change.

Episode #158: Hannah Went: How to Turn Back The Clock On Biological Aging

Episode #158: Hannah Went: How to Turn Back The Clock On Biological Aging

Would you want to know when you are going to die?   In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, I chat with Hannah Went, Director of Operations at TruDiagnostic, about the stories certain biomarkers can tell about our present health and our future health. From predictors of lifespan to predictors of diseases, there is a large array of biomarkers we can target to help identify a patient’s biological age.    Hannah also shares what lifestyle changes someone can implement to increase their longevity and reverse the clock on their biological age so that it either equals or underpasses a person’s chronological age. From limiting alcohol consumption to caloric restriction, there is a multitude of lifestyle changes one can make to increase their lifespan.    Hannah Went has a lifelong passion for longevity and breakthrough, disruptive technologies that drive radical improvement to the human condition. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated with a degree in Biology. After graduation, she worked for the International Peptide Society as their Director of Research and Content. Through work in the integrative medicine industry, Hannah saw an opportunity for methylation-based age diagnostics and started TruDiagnostics in 2020. TruDiagnostic is a company focusing on methylation array-based diagnostics for life extension and preventive healthcare serving functional medicine providers.      Thank you to our sponsors for making this episode possible:   Mitopure: Use code NAT10 for 10% off your order at https://www.timelinenutrition.com/shop/nutrition.   LMNT: Use Drinklmnt.com/NAT to get 8 free single serves with any order to try different flavors.   Profound Health: For Oral and Synthetic Bioregulators shipped worldwide as well as cutting edge anti-aging supplements use Profound-Health.com and discount code Longevity15 to save 15% off your first order     Find more from Nathalie:   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmholC48MqRC50UffIZOMOQ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/biohackingsuperhumanperformance Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nathalieniddam/ Website: NatNiddam.com Join Nat’s Membership Community: https://www.natniddam.com/bsp-community 2023 Women’s Longevity & Resilience Retreat : Learn More https://www.natniddam.com/longevity-resilience     Find more from Hannah:   Website: everythingepigenetics.com and trudiagnostic.com use code longevity12 for a discount Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/everythingepigenetics and https://www.instagram.com/trudiagnosticofficial      What we discuss:   02:29: What do all of these biomarker tests do? 06:14: What is an R-value? 09:24: What are first-generation clocks looking at? 13:22: What values do the second generation of clocks look at? 14:11: Is the GrimAge indicator an accurate predictor of lifespan? 17:03: What are the different metabolomic and proteomic approaches to biomarkers? 21:43: Why are third-generation clocks better than the precedent ones? 22:43: What can accelerate a person’s biological age? 27:57: Can exercise age you? 28:54: What does telomeres length mean about your health? 34:18: Against what population are your biomarkers usually compared? 36:40: What have the latest clinical studies found? 40:25: In which cases would your clock stay consistent over the years? 43:44: Can we determine which areas in our bodies are aging faster? 47:00: Can caloric restriction reverse biological aging? 52:01: What is the quicksilver protocol? 54:47: How often should you do a TruDiagnostic test? 56:03: What are the top lifestyle hacks to slow chronological aging? 57:30: Which supplements should you take? 58:50: Where to learn more about Hannah     Key takeaways:   Three different types of clocks examine biomarkers in terms of longevity: first-generation clocks, second-generation clocks, and third-generation clocks. They all examine different values that are indicative of longevity. Right now, the most precise clock is the third-generation clock as it is trained on direct biomarkers of health and disease, such as grip strength in people, aging-related brain shrinkage, dental health, lung function, and more.   Most of us have a biological age that is more advanced than our chronological age. While some factors influencing this premature aging can’t be changed, our biological age is heavily influenced by our lifestyle. Alcohol consumption, tobacco usage, sleeping patterns, stress management, and exercise are some of the few lifestyle aspects that can reduce our lifespan.

Episode #157: Joy Kong, MD: The Healing Benefits of Stem Cell Therapy for Immune System Disorders, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Disease

Episode #157: Joy Kong, MD: The Healing Benefits of Stem Cell Therapy for Immune System Disorders, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Disease

Did you know that stem cell therapy can be used as a preventative measure?    In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, I chat with Joy Kong, MD, about stem cell therapy. Stem cell therapy is a medical procedure that involves the use of stem cells to prevent, and address various diseases and conditions. Stem cells are unique cells that can differentiate into different types of cells in the body and can also self-renew to produce more stem cells.   Dr. Kong explains the different sources of stem cells they can pull from, such as the bone marrow, the fat tissue, and even from birth tissues. Depending on where the cells are sourced from, each source of stem cells has its advantages and disadvantages. We also chat about how stem cells differentiate from exosomes, the future of stem cell therapy, and what the research is saying about stem cell therapy for autism.   Joy Kong, M.D. is a UCLA-trained, triple-board-certified physician. She is the president of Uplyft Longevity Center in Los Angeles, California, where she specializes in stem cell therapy, and ketamine therapy, as well as a wide range of therapeutic modalities to improve patients’ overall health by enhancing their body’s innate regenerative potentials. By selectively turning on or off certain genes, bioregulator peptides can help regulate a variety of biological processes, from inflammation and immune response to tissue repair and regeneration.  There are currently 21 bioregulator peptides that address many different organ systems and can be used to improve your overall health. These peptides are derived from various sources, including plant and animal tissues, and work by signaling cells to perform specific functions. In many cases, bioregulators are used to enhance the effects of other forms of treatment. For example, they may be used alongside medication or physical therapy to help improve overall health and well-being. By using bioregulators in combination with conventional therapy, patients may be able to experience greater symptom relief and faster healing times.

Episode #155: James Barry: Pluck Seasonings and The Importance of Organ Meats

Episode #155: James Barry: Pluck Seasonings and The Importance of Organ Meats

You may have already heard how important organ meats are when it comes to health optimization, but many people still shy away from the idea of consuming these organ meats in place of a steak.   But the truth is that the nutrients found in organ meats play a crucial role in supporting immune function, brain health, and energy metabolism, and my guest today is here to share why we should all be incorporating these nutrient-rich organs into our diet.   I’m joined by James Barry, the founder of Pluck seasonings, to discuss the many benefits of eating organ meats. We discuss why as a society we have moved away from eating organ meats, and the perception that certain foods are healthier than others. James also explains why he decided to start making Pluck seasonings, and how these organ meat seasonings compare to eating the real thing.   James Barry’s 17 + years in the culinary field started as a private chef cooking for celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Mariska Hargitay, George Clooney, Gerard Butler, Sean “Puffy” Combs, Barbra Streisand, and John Cusack. Most recently, James launched his first functional food product, Pluck, an organ-based seasoning. It's the first of its kind and an amazingly easy and delicious way for people to get organ meats into their diet.   James is also a published cookbook author having co-authored the recipes in Margaret Floyd’s book Eat Naked and co-authored the follow-up cookbook The Naked Foods Cookbook. He most recently co- authored the recipes in Dr. Alejandro Junger’s book, Clean 7.    Thank you to our sponsors for making this episode possible: Eat Pluck: Use code BSP10 to save 10% on your order at eatpluck.com Profound Health: Go to Profound-health.com and use promo code Longevity15 to save 15% on your first order.    Find More From Nathalie: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmholC48MqRC50UffIZOMOQ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/biohackingsuperhumanperformance Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nathalieniddam/ Website: NatNiddam.com Join Nat’s Membership Community: https://www.natniddam.com/bsp-community Work with Nat: Book Your 20 MInute Optimization Consult: https://calendly.com/nniddam/intro-call?month=2021-08   Find more from James Barry: Website: eatpluck.com Facebook: Eat Pluck Instagram: @eatpluck   What we discuss: 00:07:19: It’s easier to find organ meats when you buy your food online  00:11:38: The myths about eating liver  00:17:17: What is it about organs that makes them so nutrient dense?  00:22:55: Why certain organs are off the market 00:31:41: When did James decide to start making Pluck seasonings? 00:38:12: The perception that certain foods are healthier than others  00:47:03: Why it’s healthier to cook rather than eat out  00:52:53: What are the best fats to cook with? 01:03:16: What percentage of organs do Pluck seasonings have?  01:10:58: What flavors of Pluck seasonings are available right now? Key Takeaways: One of the biggest myths about eating liver is that it holds a lot of toxins, making it dangerous for us to eat. While it is true that the liver acts as a filter for toxins within the body, it does not store toxins in large quantities. Instead, the liver converts potential toxins into less harmful substances or eliminates them altogether. Organs are often considered to be the most nutrient-dense foods because they are rich in a variety of essential vitamins and minerals that are not found in muscle meat. This is largely due to the fact that organs have distinct physiological functions, and as a result, they contain unique nutrient profiles. It's often healthier to cook at home than to eat out because you have control over the ingredients and cooking methods used in your food. When you cook at home, you can choose fresh and wholesome ingredients to make your meals, avoiding processed foods and excessive amounts of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats.

Episode #154: Danielle LaPorte: Nervous System Regulation, Spirituality, and the Pursuit of Longevity

Episode #154: Danielle LaPorte: Nervous System Regulation, Spirituality, and the Pursuit of Longevity

Did you know there is a connection between spirituality, a balanced nervous system and longevity? When it comes to biohacking, we focus primarily on the supplements we can take, the peptides we can use, and the different  technology we can implement into our daily life. But, what many of us forget, is that our mental wellbeing plays a huge role in our health. We can do all the biohacks we want, but if our mental health is not balanced, we’ll struggle to optimize our health and longevity…plus, the brain-gut connection is a real thing!    My guest today is here to discuss why there’s more to the pursuit of longevity than just biohacks and supplements.   I’m joined by Danielle LaPorte, and we’re diving into the spiritual side of longevity and covering the corollary between the spiritual striving and the physical striving. We also discuss why a person's health history can be the key to healing, things you can do to eliminate any obstacles within your body, and how to balance your sympathetic nervous system with your parasympathetic nervous system.    Danielle LaPorte is a member of Oprah’s SuperSoul 100 a group who, in Oprah Winfrey’s words, “is uniquely connecting the world together with a spiritual energy that matters.” Danielle is the creator of the Heart Centered Membership and the Heart Centered Leadership Program with 400+ leaders in 30 countries hosting conversation circles, retreats, and workshops in all kinds of communities and businesses.    What we discuss: 00:03:18: The light side and the shadow side of our obsession and pursuit of longevity  00:09:43: The corollary between the spiritual striving and the physical striving 00:14:36: The metaphors of the body 00:19:24: The correlation between pain and fear  00:26:01: The misperception that spiritual people are healthy all the time  00:35:16: Why going through a person's health history can be the key to healing 00:41:19: Why your entire life needs to revolve around regulating your nervous system  00:49:35: When we start to think differently, we will attract the right kind of healthcare providers  00:55:22: By accessing the energetic force within yourself, you can eliminate any obstacles within your body     Thank you to our sponsors for making this episode possible:   Primeadine: Use promo code BIONAT15 to save 15% on your first order at https://oxfordhealthspan.com/products/best-spermidine-supplement  Sensate: Use code NAT to get 10% off at https://bit.ly/NatNiddam LVLUP: Use code NAT10 to save 10% off at https://lvluphealth.com/     Find more from Nathalie:   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmholC48MqRC50UffIZOMOQ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/biohackingsuperhumanperformance Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nathalieniddam/ Website: NatNiddam.com Join Nat’s Membership Community: https://www.natniddam.com/bsp-community Work with Nat: Book Your 20 MInute Optimization Consult: https://calendly.com/nniddam/intro-call?month=2021-08   Find more from Danielle LaPorte:   Website: https://daniellelaporte.com/ Instagram: @daniellelaporte
