Just when it seemed the 2024 US Election couldn’t get any more dramatic, former President Donald Trump has suffered through a second assassination attempt. While Trump was unharmed, and reports are now coming out that the gunman did not himself manage to fire off a shot, his intentions were crystal clear. The would-be assassin, now identified as Ryan Routh, fled the scene of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach after being spotted and shot at by Secret Service agents; leaving a rifle and other supplies in his wake. Ex-CIA agent Andrew Bustamente, speaks to Piers Morgan about how the harrowing scene unfolded, and what the currently available intel would suggest. According to Andrew, it’s unlikely that Routh is working for the CIA, citing his clear instability as a disqualifying factor, but does agree that the rhetoric of Trump’s opponents may have radicalised him into believing Trump’s murder would save American democracy. It has been a wretched year for Princess Catherine. There was Katespiracy, the botched Mother’s Day photograph, months of vicious and unfounded rumours about her marriage. Most seriously of all, she was diagnosed with cancer. But this week, to our great relief, she announced that she’s beaten it. Of course, these days we’re not allowed to have nice things. Social media critics and some commentators called it “contrived,” a “cringe fest” and - in perhaps the most damning critique of all - “like something Harry and Meghan would do.” As you might imagine, I disagree. In a late entry for the most tasteless and despicable deed of the summer,  Harry and Meghan released an advertisement for their new documentary - about polo - just 90 minutes after Kate’s announcement. Sir Winston Churchill is almost unanimously regarded as a hero in Western society. In this country we voted him the Greatest Ever Briton; ahead of Shakespeare, Charles Darwin and Sir Isaac Newton. Churchill had significant flaws, including some caustic opinions and brutal decisions which were very much of their time. These flaws are widely-acknowledged. But not when it comes to the Second World War.  Rallying the country to defeat the Nazis has always been considered, well, a good thing. Last week, history podcaster Darryl Cooper appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show in a now-viral interview which included the claim that Churchill - not Hitler - was “the chief villain of the Second World War.”  As we’ll see, it didn’t stop there.
