Is this the UK’s toughest swim/run? Winter Frog Graham Round ladies’ record holder shares her story
Very excited to talk to Natalie Hawkrigg, the ladies Winter Frog Graham Round (and summer FG!) record holder, having completed her wintery run and swim of 40+ miles with 4,800m ascent and 4 swims across the Lake District in 15 hours 46 minutes in December 2022. So many questions for her, including her training, logistics, nutrition, cold water, biosecurity, high points, low points and recovery. Natalie (and her friend Clare Regan) are also the first to create AND complete the FrogMan - a Bob Graham PLUS 4 swims, so I’ll be asking if a winter FrogMan will now be on the cards…First on YouTube here https://youtube.com/live/T8fthuJy5HQNatalie's summer Frog blog https://www.northernfellsrc.org.uk/how-to-get-a-frog-out-of-a-calf-tear/Dan Duxbury’s Frog Graham https://youtu.be/r_laODHvWOc My book, The Ultimate Trail Running Handbook https://amzn.to/3jgKvTyPlease like and subscribe here on YouTube https://linktr.ee/ClaireWGRFollow me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/wildgingerrunning/Support me on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/WildGingerRunningMeet me at Nene Valley trail races https://nenevalleyraces.wordpress.com/ Hosted on Acast. How do you complete the Montane Lakeland 100 mile race 3 times? ’Normal’ runner shares her advice!
Thrilled to chat to my friend and fellow Stamford Strider Fiona Martin about her amazing thrice completion of the Montane Lakeland 100 over the last few years! She is going for her 4th this year and wants to complete 5 in order to get a coveted slate trophy! I am working towards the ML100 myself, first doing the ML50 this summer followed by the 100 possibly (if I am successful and get in!) in 2024 or a future date. Here we find out all about teacher Fiona’s training, gear, nutrition, how she deals with sleep deprivation and the inevitable aches and pains that come with running a bloomin' long way. Finishing her 100 miles around 36 hours I am much more keen to hear Fiona’s experiences and advice than all the elite athletes I used to interview - I think this will be way more relevant and useful for us all! Your first 100 miler - which one to choose? Are there any ”easier” ones? What aspects to consider?
This month's training chat with coach, physio and Summer Spine 108 mile winner Tim Pigott from HP3 Coaching (https://www.hp-3.co.uk). So, announcement - I actually can't do the Montane Lakeland 100 this year because although I've run plenty of 50 milers in the past, I didn't during 2020-2022 because of pregnancy, birth and getting back to it, so I don't meet the entry requirements. I am actually relieved because the more I looked into it and started training for ML100, the more I understood how hard it is, and also I might not be ready for 100 miles just yet - there's no rush, respect the distance, focus on the ML50 and then choose a 100 miler after hopefully completing that successfully. So, which one to choose....? This required a spreadsheet of 20 of the best UK 100 mile races (available to Patreon supporters or YouTube members only! Sign up here https://www.patreon.com/WildGingerRunning) so I can compare all the aspects and choose the most inspiring, least hard one for either autumn 2023 or spring 2024. Kit, training & navigation hacks & howlers from a 30 x Original Mountain Marathon (OMM) completer!
This week we chat to Patreon Colin Bergstrand about how him and running partner Jon have completed no less than 30 Original Mountain Marathons (OMMs) !!!Originally on YouTube here https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-sr8xa-135fe92The OMM is a hugely challenging 2-day event held at the end of October where pairs must navigate through the mountains to find checkpoints, carrying all the kit they need to survive for two days of running, hiking and camping. I've done a couple in the summer and they were hard enough, so how on earth have Colin and John survived 30 in winter?! Let's find out all their kit, training and navigation hacks and howlers, why they keep going back for more, and most importantly, if they're going for 40 next!
