Fer Sure - Episode 17: Catherine Silverman

Fer Sure - Episode 17: Catherine Silverman

Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): Olympics: (00:00 - 29:54) We talk about how awesome it was that the US Women’s team won the gold, and we also talk a bit about curling. Interview: (29:54 - 1:09:23) We talk to InGoal Magazine and The Athletic Chicago’s Catherine Silverman about everything goaltending. We talk about goalies throughout the league as well as the Red Wings’ potential future goalies. Trade Deadline!: (1:09:23 - end) We recorded this on Saturday, and already it’s outdated, but we talk about the trade deadline. Jay also takes a little heat for making a factual mistake, even though I make at least one an episode. Then you have the wrap-up with the Doc Emrick verb of the show.   Look for Episode 17 in your podcast feeds and this website Monday morning. If you are using a podcast app, you can find both this podcast and WIIM Radio (our podcast devoted to the Red Wings) in the same channel - Winging it in Motown. Here is the link to our merchandise store that we talk about in the episode. Every dime we make through the first week in March will be donated to the You Can Play Foundation.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Fer Sure - Episode 16: Achariya

Fer Sure - Episode 16: Achariya

Note: Because of an expiring plug for Garageband, our levels kept auto-adjusting. Sorry in advance for volume issues, and we’re working on fixing it for next time. Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): Goaltender Interference: (00:00 - 18:56) The league’s latest pronouncement on the topic hasn’t really had the intended effect. Olympics : (18:56 - 36:20) First off, watch the women! We also have some thoughts on the men’s tournament. DoPS and Alex Burrows (36:20 - 46:38) The DoPS actually gave out a double-digit suspension. Interview: (46:38 - 1:31:18) We had a long interview with Achariya from Raw Charge and Pension Plan Puppets. We talked about stealing Yzerman back as well as a long segment on Hockey is for Everyone. Wrap up: (1:31:18 - End) Listen to the Doc Emrick adjective of the episode and where to follow us. Make sure to listen to the end for an outro featuring an outtake from this episode!   You can listen via the embedded player above or download directly from our Blogtalk Radio page. WIIM Radio: The Trade Doldrums Edition

WIIM Radio: The Trade Doldrums Edition

Welcome to the latest edition of WIIM Radio! I’m joined by Lauren and Mike B on this week’s episode to talk all things Red Wings. Here’s what we got up to: The Wings Since We Last: Two wins and three losses since we last recorded, we’ve got a five-game span to go over to start things off. It’s not terribly surprising, but at least the Sharks and Canes wins were fun times. The Florida loss wasn’t so awful, but the bookends with Chicago and Boston are the bad ones. At least the kids are learning. Speaking of that though, what’s up with those kids losing out on ice time lately? What’s going on with Tomas Tatar lately? Most importantly, what are we looking for out of the last 30 games of the season for the Wings? The Scouting Game: We take a look at the trade targets and potential destinations for the guys we’re getting rid of. Washington, Tampa, Toronto, The Islanders, and even Vegas are all out there as potentials. We talk about landing spots for Green, the thin goalie market, where the picks are, and the idea of Athanasiou being simultaneously a trade asset and an untouchable. Quickly Around the League: Alex Burrows is trash (link to suspension video). Positivity Corner: Shortly after approaching sadness lane, we saunter into positivity corner to remind ourselves there is goodness in this world. Reader Questions: Mostly trade questions with one very bad question asked by Jeff. Looking Ahead: The Wings face off against the Isles and Caps in the short-run and then have a pretty busy February ahead.     As always, WIIM Radio is rated R for language and fishing without a permit.  Learn more about your ad choices. Fer Sure - Episode 15: Dom Luszczyszyn

Fer Sure - Episode 15: Dom Luszczyszyn

Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): Marchand Gets Five Games: (00:00 - 19:15) The DoPS finally did something (kinda) right. We talk about the suspension and how it could have been even better. All Star Skills Competition: (19:15 - 35:30) We watched the skills competition, and we have some thoughts. Interview: (35:30 - 1:10:30) We talked to Dom Luszczyszyn about a wide range of topics. From his Game Score model to what Mike Babcock is doing with Mitch Marner all the way to the top five reasons to watch Riverdale. Bettman Fixes the Wrong Problem: (1:10:30 - 1:18:22) Gary Bettman talks about the issues with goaltender interference and completely ignores the main problem. Favorite All-Star Moments: (1:18:22 - End) We recorded this before the AS Games were played, so we talk about our favorite moments from All-Star weekends past. Thanks a lot for listening, and we hope you are off to a good start to your new year!   You can listen via the embedded player above or download directly from our Blogtalk Radio page Learn more about your ad choices. WIIM Radio: The After-the-Midpoint Edition

WIIM Radio: The After-the-Midpoint Edition

Welcome to our newest WIIM Radio! This time around I’m joined by Mike B with Peter hosting our festivities for the chit-chat. Here’s what we got up to The Red Wings of Late: Detroit is 4-4-1 in the new year so far with good-looking wins over Chicago and New Jersey and also some dumb-looking losses. Pretty much par for how we got here from 2017 as expected. At least the kids are getting more chances to shine and to learn at the NHL level from the team’s inconsistent play. Around the NHL: With the season just over halfway over and all the teams through their breaks, we took a quick look around the league to see what’s up in Vegas and marvel at the idea that they actually gave Marchand five games. The Avs have been super-hot, but watching them lose again was nice. The Blackhawks are “not fantastic” and that’s very entertaining. Buffalo and Arizona are super-duper bad. Upcoming Special Tournaments: Between the Olympics and the All-Star....errrr...”game” we’ve got some specialty hockey to talk... and some real trouble building any actual excitement for the ASG. Between the format and the other crap surrounding it, it’s just hard to really care. There is more interest in the Olympics to watch some guys playing for national pride and a crop of younger folks. Positivity Corner: The best segment of any podcast. Reader Questions: You asked and we answered in a hearty reader question segment, as we talked about the struggles getting shots, the plans for selling off, the coaching, and more! Looking Ahead: Detroit has one game left before the All-Star break and then picks back up next Wednesday. Our crystal balls are out and polished for this one. Learn more about your ad choices. Fer Sure - Episode 14: Steph Driver

Fer Sure - Episode 14: Steph Driver

Here’s what Peter and Jay have for you this time (all time locations are without the opening ad): Winter (not so) Classic: (00:00 - 12:13) The NHL played a game with Classic in the title, but it didn’t live up to the name. All Star Captains and Jerseys: (12:13 - 23:00) What do we think about the captains and the jerseys that were announced for the NHL All-Star game? Interview: (23:00- 55:45) We talked to Steph Driver, and it was both informative and a lot of fun. I’m sure you’re going to enjoy this one. Olympics: (55:45 - 1:07:00) The US rosters were revealed, and we don’t know anyone on them, but Peter has a connection to one player. Cross Checks: (1:07:00 - End) We’re bringing this segment back! You’ll have to listen to find out what the topics are. Thanks a lot for listening, and we hope you are off to a good start to your new year!   You can listen via the embedded player above or download directly from our Blogtalk Radio page Learn more about your ad choices. WIIM Radio: The Year End Edition

WIIM Radio: The Year End Edition

Welcome to the newest WIIM Radio! To finish out 2017, we’ve got me, Kyle and Peter here to discuss the goings-on in Red Wings land for you fine folks. Here’s what we got up to (This time certified fork-and-plate-free!): The Red Wings of Late and the Drain on Zetterberg - It’s painful to see the captain have to bear the brunt of the realization of how far gone the organization is, but we spoke to where we’re at in terms of fandom. We talk about what the course should be from this point going forward. Around the League/World - We’re struggling to care more about the WJC going on due in part to the lack of high-end Red Wings prospects. Also, the Zac Rinaldo suspension was really stupid too. Positivity Corner - A very much-needed corner of our broadcast. Reader Questions - Not as many questions for this one, but the quality was super-high. It’s like shots on net from the game the Blues toasted us 6-1. Looking Ahead - What do we think Detroit will do in their next batch of games? We’ve got six points on the table over the next seven days. Let’s see what we can gather.   You can listen via the embedded player above or download directly from our Blogtalk Radio page. You can also find us on iTunes or Google Podcasts. For a fee, I’ll carve it into stone tablets and have it delivered to you via complicated international art dealings (it’s a very large fee). As always, WIIM Radio is rated R for language and stealing hotel towels.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
