Perfect tennis dinner companions, will ATP-WTA unity last, and is it ok to support Tennys Sandgren?

We’re back with another Q&A edition of The Tennis Podcast, answering listener questions about our dream tennis dinner party, the Grand Slam credentials of Alex de Minaur and Nick Kyrgios, how long the unity between the ATP and the WTA might last, and whether it’s okay to support Tennys Sandgren despite his past Twitter support for the far right.

Plus, an update on the cancellation of Montreal, a chat about the tennis players we most resemble, and a massive argument.

The Tennis Podcast is presented by Catherine Whitaker and David Law, featuring Matt Roberts. It is produced weekly year-round, and daily during the Grand Slam tournaments. It is crowdfunded by listeners every December.

French Open Finals - Serena vs. Muguruza; Djokovic vs. Murray

French Open Finals - Serena vs. Muguruza; Djokovic vs. Murray

Andy Murray is trying to be the first British man in 81 years to win the French Open, Djokovic will try to complete a career Grand Slam on Sunday, Garbine Muguruza is after her first ever major title, and Serena Williams is trying to tie Steffi Graf on 22. The only prediction anyone can make with confidence is that tennis is in for an emotional weekend.  After a day packed with semifinals, tennis broadcasters Catherine Whitaker and David Law convened for a Tennis Podcast which reviewed a scintillating performance from Murray to knock out defending champion Stan Wawrinka, and assess his chances in the final. We hear from Grand Slam champions Mats Wilander and Thomas Johansson, and Wimbledon runner-up Mark Philippoussis about what they see as the keys to victory for Murray against Djokovic.  In the women’s final, the physical condition of Serena Williams is discussed - she was revealed to have an ‘adductor injury’ after her semifinal win over Kiki Bertens. And we talk about her... Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

French Open - Week 2 Starts With Washout; John McEnroe - Super Coach; What Now For Nadal? Djokovic, Murray

After play was called off for the day because of bad weather on Monday, the Telegraph’s Tennis Correspondent Simon Briggs joined Catherine Whitaker to discuss week one and look ahead to week two. Will the tournament get back on track, or is a third Monday in store?  What does the future look like for Rafael Nadal after his shock withdrawal because of a wrist injury? What will new super-coach John McEnroe bring to the career of Milos Raonic? How is Andy Murray looking now that he has got his tournament back on track? And who is Shelby Rogers, and how did she get to the quarterfinals? Whitaker and Briggs wade through it all, before wading back to their respective hotels.  The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with The Telegraph. Hosted on Acast. French Open - The Draws! Magnus Norman - How To Beat Novak Djokovic; David Law: 'The French Open Cost Me My A-Levels'

The French Open for 2016 is upon us, the draws have been made, and Catherine Whitaker is in Paris for the fortnight. David Law isn't, but that doesn't stop them getting together to pour over the potential match-ups and make the usual batch of sweeping, and most likely ill conceived predictions. We hear from Magnus Norman, coach to Stan Wawrinka, about how you beat Novak Djokovic in a Grand Slam tournament, from catherine about what Roland Garros is like (full of quiche, apparently) and from David about how the French Open caused him to fail his A-levels.  The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with The Telegraph. This preview edition of the Tennis Podcast is sponsored by Racquet Magazine, a new, print-only, quarterly tennis magazine which 'does justice to the game we love—from tennis' buccaneering past to its modern global culture'. Rome - Murray Masters Djokovic; Martina Navratilova Interview: 'Serena and Djokovic Still The Ones To Beat'; Who To Coach Andy?

Serena Williams had not won a tournament all year, until now, and after lifting the trophy in Rome for a fourth time, Martina Navratilova told The Tennis Podcast that she is still very much the favourite for the French Open title.  The great Navratilova also thinks Novak Djokovic is still the one to beat on the men's side, even though Andy Murray's straight sets win over the Serb in the Rome final will have given hope to the rest. Presenters Catherine Whitaker and David Law convened to discuss the week that was in Rome, the emergence of Madison Keys, and to debate who Murray's next coach will be. It got a bit heated when the subject of Ivan Lendl came up. The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with The Telegraph.    Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Madrid - 'This Is The Year Novak Djokovic Wins The French Open'

Novak Djokovic beat Andy Murray for a 12th time in 13 meetings to banish memories of his early loss to Jiri Vesely in Monte Carlo, and our presenter David Law now believes that he will go on to finally land that elusive Roland Garros crown. Law is joined by Catherine Whitaker from Madrid, who witness the Djokovic express close up in a final that became increasingly intriguing as it went on. There’s also talk of Simona Halep’s title win, the returning Serena Williams in Rome, and a poll about who is now favourite for the women’s title at the French Open in a few weeks time.  The Tennis Podcast is produced in association with The Telegraph.    Hosted on Acast.
