In today's episode, Haylie Pomroy sits down with Dr. Philip DeFina, a leading researcher and clinician in advanced neurorehabilitation, to explore how personalized, non-invasive brain interventions are changing outcomes for patients with traumatic brain injury, disorders of consciousness, long COVID, and neurodegenerative disease.

Dr. DeFina explains his approach of combining electrical, magnetic, and chemical interventions simultaneously, a philosophy that has helped over 300 patients emerge from severe disorders of consciousness after being told elsewhere that recovery was not possible. He breaks down the neuroinflammatory feedback loop connecting the brain, the hormone system, and the immune system, the science behind hyperbaric oxygen therapy, his specialized free program for military veterans, and his detailed protocol for addressing the infectious encephalopathy underlying long COVID brain fog.

This is a conversation about what becomes possible when brain medicine catches up to the complexity of the brain itself. Tune in to Hope and Help For Fatigue and Chronic Illness.

Dr. Philip DeFina has over 40 years of experience as a neuropsychologist and cognitive neuroscientist. He is most known for developing novel, groundbreaking treatment protocols for traumatic brain injury, coma, autism spectrum, and PTSD. He is the founder and Chief Scientific Officer of the International Brain Research Foundation (IBRF). Dr. DeFina previously served on the NYU faculty as an associate professor of neurology and psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine and the Bellevue Hospital Center. He was a forensic neuropsychologist at the Mount Sinai-Elmhurst Hospital Medical Center and was an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland Psychology Department. Dr. DeFina was also the founder and first director of the Fielding Graduate University's Post-Doctoral Clinical Neuropsychology Training Program. Dr. DeFina subsequently co-founded the school neuropsychology training program at Texas Women's University and co-founded the American Board of School Neuropsychology, and was one of the original founding members of the American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology.
