Episode 6. Relationships, Part 2

Episode 6. Relationships, Part 2

Welcome to Episode 6, where we pick up our conversation about relationships! We kick things off by trying to debunk the idea that relationships always end in or because of failure, and to reframe challenges and conflicts in our relationships as experiences in which we learn more about ourselves and our relational identities. Gene ponders whether relationships can downgrade or transfer laterally in closeness and connection in contrast to assuming that all relationships ought to naturally deepen. Next, we highlight the personal power we have in establishing adult relationships; they can be whatever we want them to be! Gene & Matt branch off by discussing a particularly unique relationship, which is between patient and therapist, and the implications of a more one-sided information exchange. Finally, we bring up the topic of chosen family and what that means to us. Enjoy the show! Show mentions: Stutz, a documentary by Jonah Hill, about his psychiatrist, Phil Stutz You can find it on Netflix here!
