2. Dad’s Suicide

Knock knock. Who’s there? Not today, just one more day. On this episode, I share my own personal experiences of having suicidal ideations, what helps me, and what doesn’t. Be proactive. Be present. Most people with depression will not approach you first. ——— • Don’t just tell them you’re here if they want to talk. Check in regularly with a, “Hey, just checking in. How are you doing?” • Don’t just copy+paste the Suicide hotline #, have a conversation with them. • Keep trying even if they say they want to be left alone. They may be distancing themselves in preparation to follow through with suicide. • Don’t take things personally. When a person is depressed, their body and mind are in pain. They will be cranky and negative. ——— Kids Help Phone. For free, anonymous and confidential help from professional counselors in the US & Canada. Ages 5-29. 24/7 call: 800-668-6868 Text: 686868.
