Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show Season 4, Episode 33: Bayern Munich and Joshua Kimmich hit an impasse...now what?; Celebrating Bayern Munich’s 125th Anniversary; An Entertainment Rundown; and MORE!

So...is there anything important going on at Bayern Munich?

Obviously, the recent news on Joshua Kimmich has taken center-stage, so we will dive fully into that situation, while also offering up an appreciation of the club as it celebrates its 125th Anniversary. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show:

  • The breaking news that Bayern Munich pulled its contract extension offer from Joshua Kimmich left many observers stunned. What does it mean? Where do the two side go from here? Does Kimmich have other options? WIll Bayern add another midfielder to the mix this summer if Kimmich walks?
  • Celebrating Bayern Munich’s 125th Anniversary — why the club is so important, why so many fans have gravitated to it, and how the club’s Mia San Mia mentality and true “Commitment to Excellence” (sorry Raiders fans) are something that we should all appreciate.
  • A brief Entertainment Rundown featuring an ode to Gene Hackman and some final thoughts on the ending of the Netflix series, “Cobra Kai.”

Bavarian Podcast Works: Season 4 lift off! We’re back, baby!

After what’s been an incredibly ridiculous 17 months since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, it’s genuinely hard to believe that yet another Bundesliga season for Bayern Munich is upon us. Our sense of time has been warped by the amount of action we’ve seen packed so close together for the better part of the past 15 months after football and sport as a whole had been paused for approximately two months when the pandemic first started to break out en masse across the globe. Just as quickly as Germany was knocked out of the Euros by England, Julian Nagelsmann already has a full preseason under his belt as the new Bayern manager and we’re just one week away from the season opener against Borussia Monchengladbach. With a new Bayern season comes a new season of Bavarian Podcast Works and our flagship show. We have bold ambitions for this season and we also can’t wait to start to integrate some more voices on the shows so that you all don’t get too tired of myself (Tom), Jake, and/or Chuck. We’ve been working behind the scenes on experimenting with different software to make our lives collectively easier as far as recording and editing is concerned, so we’re hoping that results in elevated audio quality and consistency for all of our listeners! We’re really looking forward to this season and being able to share it with all of you!Season 4 Liftoff! We’ve got a full preseason to discuss in this first flagship episode of the new season. There were winners, there were losers, and there were players that were just so/so. There have also been a few juicy transfer rumors floating about just weeks before the window officially closes, so Chuck and I had to talk about it. There was lots to unravel in this season 4 flagship liftoff!Thank you all for your continued support of Bavarian Podcast Works and be sure to leave us feedback in the comments section or on Twitter.Yet again, we’re providing you the best audio content by giving you a wrap-up and recap of this most recent match. In this episode, Chuck and Tom discuss:Bayern’s preseasonWinners and losers from Bayern’s preseason.Impressions thus far of Julian NagelsmannThe futures of bout Zirkzee and CuisanceThe Marcel Sabitzer transfer rumor. And of course we snuck in some quality banter!Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern Munich loses to Napoli, 0-3, goes into season a bit rusty

Julian Nagelsmann will be glad preseason friendlies are over after yet another average showing by Bayern Munich . In what was good news, many starters returned and played 45 or more minutes. Robert Lewandowski captained the side for the day; other regulars included Leroy Sané, Leon Goretzka, Benjamin Pavard, Kingsley Coman among others, Coman would not last long, sustaining an injury early in the first half and being taken off for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.There were chances from Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Dayot Upamecano and Choupo-Moting in the first half but the teams went into the half 0-0. Julian Nagelsmann made nine changes to start off the second half. The changes would disrupt flow, particularly at the back, and Bayern would go on to concede three quick goals in the last 20 or so minutes to lose 0-3.Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works: Bayern Munich takes on nemesis Borussia Mönchengladbach, inevitably loses 0-2

The friendlies are running out and Julian Nagelsmann is running out of time to win one. Today was no different; Bayern Munich went down to the team I consider their arch-nemesis, Borussia MönchengIadbach, 0-2. I wonder if Hansi Flick would have won his friendlies if he had the chance to play friendlies last season. There were some solid performers out there. Malik Tillman had a good game as did Omar Richards; Richards’ performance matters because of all the injuries Bayern is contending with in defense. For Gladbach, long-term players such as Patrick Hermann disappointed but youngsters such as Connor Noss and Moustafa Moustafa impressed. Hannes Wolf put in a very good performance as well.Perhaps Nagelsmann is learning more and more about which players he wants to promote. Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany. Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show: Reactions and talking points from Bayern Munich’s 2-2 draw with Ajax

Bayern Munich and Ajax fought to a fun — and relatively well-played — 2-2 draw in Germany. There were some good things — and some not so good things — about the match, but we saw some progress from the Bayern Munich youngsters and from a few vets as well.On this episode we discuss the following:The good performance from players like Armindo Sieb, Tanguy Nianzou, Michael Cuisance, and Torben Rhein. The huge gaffe by Joshua Zirkzee — who was actually doing well prior to that. Why things are never going to look really pretty in these friendlies. The fearlessness of the Bayern Munich’s youngsters and why Julian Nagelsmann might be an influence with that.As always, thank you for the support!
