How to Kick Your Day's ASS

How to Kick Your Day's ASS

Life coach Brooke Castillo has a term for procrastinating I absolutely love…

Buffering.” She defines it as the things we do to avoid feeling pain. One example Brooke uses to describe this process is this: “say you come into a room, flip on the light, and discover it’s an absolute mess--a disaster. The natural thing to do is to turn the light back off!”

That’s buffering. Avoidance. It can take all sorts of forms--eating, drinking, cleaning--anything to avoid addressing the mess in the room.

We all do it, to one degree or another, but there is a way out. A terrific way to minimize how much you and I buffer each day. In fact, if you do what I’m about to share, I promise your life will improve.

Why?

It’s simple: planning your day carefully leaves little time for buffering.

Time management guru Brian Tracy says each minute you spend in planning saves as many as ten minutes in execution.

FURTHER: It takes only about 10 to 12 minutes for you to plan out your day, but this small investment of time will save you up to two hours (100 to 120 minutes) in wasted time and diffused effort through the day.

--->Right now, I’m only going to ask you to spend five.

So what is this magical process and how do you do it?

  • This evening, sit down for just five minutes and write out everything you need to do to reach your goals. I recommend you use a big blank sheet of 8.5x11 paper.
  • Then, after you’ve put everything down, you need to prioritize your list. I recommend using a scale of one to five, five being the most important, one being the least.

Having done this activity, you should now have great clarity on what needs to be done first, second, and so forth. Stick to it!

It doesn’t have to be perfect and it’ll probably change. In fact, it absolutely will change as you start to develop momentum, which will greatly increase your confidence.

That’s it...

Now go crush your day!
