Manifesting & Motherhood - From Bankruptcy to Bliss

Manifesting & Motherhood - From Bankruptcy to Bliss

Hi everyone, welcome back to The Meredith Patterson Podcast.

If you've been following along, a previous episode I did called Broadway to Bankruptcy struck a chord. That chapter of my life might have looked glamorous from the outside—dancing under the bright lights, curtain calls, standing ovations—but behind the curtain, I was in one of the most challenging seasons of my life.

Financially, I was drowning. Emotionally, I was questioning everything. I was in that space where your heart feels cracked open, and you're not sure if you'll ever feel steady again.

But here's what I didn't know at the time: the Universe was clearing the stage for something bigger. And not just bigger in career or success, but bigger in love, in purpose, in the life I was meant to live.

The Letter to My Future Self

Not long after the bankruptcy—when I was sitting in that mix of desperation but also a quiet, stubborn hope—I did something that changed everything.

I wrote a letter to my future self.

At the time, I didn't even realize I was using the Law of Attraction. I wasn't consciously saying, "I'm going to manifest this." But I knew I needed to put my energy somewhere positive.

And so I wrote—not a wish list, not "someday I hope"—but a declaration.

I wrote in the present tense, as if everything I wanted had already happened.

"I am in love with a man who truly sees me.
He's kind. He's brilliant. He's wildly talented.
He is not in competition with me—he celebrates me.
He is a loving, grounded, supportive partner.
He's humble and handsome and so full of integrity.
And he's the father of our children—this man shows up in every way."

I didn't just write the qualities; I felt them. I imagined the warmth of his hand in mine, the sound of laughter in our kitchen, the way it would feel to raise a family together.

When I finished, I folded that letter up and tucked it away. And I went back to my life, not knowing how or when the Universe would answer—but trusting that it would.

💫 When the Universe Says Yes

Six months later… he walked into my life.

That man is now my husband, Dustin Brayley.

A man who is genuinely kind and generous of spirit.
A breathtaking artist with a soulful voice, who shines without ever needing to outshine anyone else.
A man who lifts me up, never competes, never brags—just is.

He's my partner in every sense of the word. And when I watch him with our children, I know the Universe didn't just give me what I asked for—it exceeded my wildest dreams.

We weren't together long before we both knew: we were it for each other. There was no doubt, no games, no holding back.

🍼 The Fast-Tracked Miracle: Becoming a Mother

We got pregnant quickly. And by quickly, I mean—blink and suddenly I was holding a positive pregnancy test in my hand.

And just like that, the girl who had been broken and bankrupt, was rebuilding her life one step at a time, was now growing a baby.

My first baby.

And everything—everything—flipped upside down in the best way possible.

Motherhood shifted my entire compass. My dreams didn't disappear; they sharpened. They became more urgent, more intentional. Suddenly, it wasn't just about what I wanted for myself—it was about creating a life for us. Infact I began booking TV shows faster and with more ease than I ever had (Guest Starring role on The Good Wife, Made in Jersey, Person Of Interest)

A life that could hold both art and family.
Creativity and stability.
Magic and messes.

I went from Broadway lights to baby monitors. And you know what? I've never felt more aligned in my life.

🌱 The Truth About Manifestation

Here's the thing—manifesting isn't just about getting what you want.

It's about becoming the version of yourself who can actually receive it.

That meant I had to grow.
I had to let go of identities that no longer served me.
I had to release the belief that my worth was tied to my resume or my bank account.

I had to learn that the life you're dreaming of won't arrive if you're still clinging to the version of yourself that's afraid to have it.

Motherhood taught me that. Love taught me that.

💖 Manifestation + Motherhood = Bliss

There is no perfect blueprint.
This shift of motherhood started blissfully but it came with a pricetag for me and my career. Not because of what I wanted but what the industry taught me about how mother's are perceived when it comes to work. More on that in a future episode. That topic is huge and has a lot of prejudice around it. Most companies don't believe mother's are able or willing to work so they prejudge and don't even ask. I wasn't getting as many auditions as the years went on. I know that's not every woman's and mother's experience, but it was mine. I was also approaching 40. So agism, sexism and being a mother of now two babies was coming into play when the entertainment industry thought of me.

But again, that's a whole other podcast episode in itself.

The transition of motherhood and still manifesting isn't an easy path.

I still get overwhelmed. I still question myself.

But I live in awe of this life I have created—how it unfolded when I stopped trying to micromanage it and instead started co-creating with it.

If you're listening right now and you feel like you're in your own "Broadway to Bankruptcy" moment—you are in a dark place, whatever that looks like for you—I want you to hear this:

It's not the end.

It's the beginning.

Write a letter to your future self.
Speak your desires aloud.
Trust that you are not asking for too much—you are asking for what is already yours.

In next week's Mental Health Monday episode, I'm going to walk you step-by-step through how I wrote that letter, the exact structure I used, and how you can tap into that high-vibe, heart-centered frequency so you can start manifesting no matter where you are in life.
